The Three Most Common Affiliate Marketing Mistakes

Posted 09-04-2008 at 12:35 AM by Monetize

The number one mistake that affiliate marketers
make is having too many unrelated banners and
links on their web pages. I suppose that they
want to get more bang for their buck, so they
slap all the affiliate offers they have onto a
single website. The thinking is that this will
generate sales. But the more effective thing to
do is to select one to three related offers,
provide relevant content, and avoid confusing
your visitors.

The second common mistake is unsightly web
designs. This is an immediate turn-off to your
visitors. Your website doesn’t have to be the
most fascinating website on the planet in order
to gain conversions, but features such as yellow
fonts on a black background, flashing banners,
jumping gifs and other distracting content only
makes your visitors engage their exit buttons.
Use common sense when setting up your sites
by using muted colors, legible fonts and quality
content. This is what will bring your visitors
back again and again.

The third thing to avoid, besides unsightly pages
is a page that is laden with grammatical errors
and typos. You don’t need the ability to write
prose like Shakespeare but you must ensure that
your content is relevant, frequently updated and
free of blatant errors such as incorrect homonyms,
misspelled words, punctuation errors and offensive
language. If you require assistance, ask a friend
to proofread your web site for you to ensure that
it is free of these common marketing mistakes.
