Successful Affiliate Marketing Takes Time and Patience

Posted 09-09-2008 at 11:15 PM by Monetize

So many beginning affiliate marketers grow
impatient and give up on this business model
before they've even given it a chance to
develop into a profitable venture. I suppose
it's because we live in an instant gratification
world and everyone wants to get rich over
night.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. You
must first establish an account with an affiliate
marketing network or individual program
manager. This isn't so easy because most of
these AMs (affiliate managers) are not keen on
working with newbies, many of whom will turn
out to be non-performers. They want to spend
their limited time on someone who is a proven
producer, or who at least seems to possess
the potential of becoming one.

Once your account has been approved you
must decide which offers to promote. This isn't
easy either since some of the networks have
hundreds of different products and services to
choose from. After you've selected your offers,
you need to figure out how you're going to
promote them. What type of website are you
going to build? Will it be a static site or a blog?
A review site, informational, tutorial, freebie or
what. These are all considerations you must
think about when starting out with affiliate
marketing.

If you're lucky, you'll get an AM who is willing
to work with you when you are just starting
out. If you're smart, you'll have done your
research and not come off as a clueless noob
by asking questions that you should know the
answers to. And if the gods are smiling upon
you, you'll luck up on a network that will
provide you with quality creatives, generous
commissions, and web designers who work
free of charge.

Once you get your site up and running, you
must generate traffic. And you'll probably try
to run AdWords campaigns and spend all your
money on PPC. The money you can't really
afford to waste. And you'll frustrate because
you don't understand that this phase is part
of the learning curve.

Eventually, you'll figure out what to promote
and how to promote it, how to get traffic to
your site and how to convert it. But if you
give up, it will never happen.

If you are just starting out and about to give
up, or done it for a while and still learning the
ropes, I would urge you to keep plugging away
at it, and in time you will be richly rewarded
for all of your work and patience.
