3 Tips for Hiring on odesk

Hey guys. I've used odesk to hire over 40 people and I've spent thousands in the process. Here's my profile: http://www.odesk.com/jobs/~~91edcfdf1843adf0 (I'm legit!) Don't make the same mistakes I did!
1. Hire only the best candidates
There are over one million contractors on oDesk. You can find ALOT of good quality talent for your task. What is great about oDesk is that it has a 5 star rating and feedback system (similar to eBay). It's my own policy that I don't
hire anyone with a feedback score lower than 4.25, or have worked less than 50 hours on oDesk. This way you ensure that you have someone who's been through the whole processing and payment system before, they know the rules and
they know exactly how oDesk works and what to expect from their web clients. This way you don't waste your time or money.
2. Interview before Hiring
This is an important step. Make sure that you talk with your candidate before hiring them. Whether that is via phone, skype or through the odesk messaging system. Get a sense of who they are, their experience, and
simply treat your communication with them like a real interview. They'll appreciate that you take them seriously and they'll do a better job for it.
3. Beware of contracts made outside of oDesk
Once you get to know your clients, they may, or you may be tempted to stall contracts, cap hours and stop paying via oDesk. and pay your contractors via other methods like Paypal.
This is not recommended for good reasons. Be aware of your contracters behaviour, over time they may become lazy and unmotivated. Although you may pay them well, the motivation for putting in a quality job may detoriate as feedback, ratings and the number of hours they have worked on oDesk are taken away.
Good luck!
