WordPress
WordPress is the daddy of the Blogging world and is our recommended blogging tool. It is easy to use, well supported and very flexible in its design often used as a content management system. WordPress has a huge number of free and premium themes as well as everything from E-commerce to Social Networking plugins to expand its functionally.
MovableType
Movable Type is a very comprehensive blogging system like WordPress with a good back end of support. It has a good user base with large sites such as Gawker’s Media sites running it. Its advantage over other platforms is how easy it is to run multiple blogs on a single install. Its community is still growing after its move to a open source format but us a very good system comparable to WordPress.
Blogger
Blogger is one of the original blogging sites and services. Its owned by google and has improved over the years with a simple usable system perfect for inexperienced users. Blogger requires no hosting service and has zero setup but it does lack the expansion and customisation that other services offer.
Tumblr
Tumblr is a mini blogging system. Its a expansion of tweeting – More characters. Its a ever expanding system and has a huge number of themes available with easy social network integration.
Joomla
Joomla is a full CMS and is very easy to create any kind of website with the built in extension system. It’s easy to use and setup and has a good community supporting it.
Drupal
Drupal and Joomla are very quite similar in there functionality with Drupal more directed towards towards community sites. Drupal is strong blogging platforms available and has the flexibility to run any style of site. Its got a good community and is open source in its design.
Posterous
A social networking integrated blogging tool. Has the ability to post via email built in and is a lot like Tumblr in its function. Has a good mixture of themes that are available but lacks the customization of other services.
Penzu
Penzu is a new platform with privacy its main feature designed for users looking to share there blog with a selected few rather than the masses.
It's very much like a Journal in its operation with a very simple user backend designed more for writing than for customisation.
