Continuing with our look at 2011′s design trends, today we are looking at a big change in the way people will interact with your site – Touch Screens.
Computing has become much more tactile, instead of navigating with a plain old mouse, your destination is now available at your fingertips. How does your site accommodate fingertip navigation?
You will be surprised on how much of your site design has mouse-oriented design elements? As designers, we use mice every day and our designs reflect that, our links light up when the mouse hovers over, navigation menus are triggered by clicks and movement.
Similarly, how will visitors browse your site? for the last 50 years computing has always used the rule to display information from top to bottom, in 2011 this looks to change. Horizontal scrolling is ergonomically more appropriate for touch screen devices, it replicated reading more naturally from a book or paper.
Using liquid layouts as part of your sites design will help alleviate the problem with displaying your site over a whole host of screen ressolutions and in 2011 that is essential.
