I've tracked millions of keywords over the past 11 years as an affiliate marketer. While there are always a few surprising keywords that convert, there are certain keywords you always have to test that have a higher probability of converting well.

If you don't fully understand the importance of buyer keywords and how to use them in affiliate marketing, I strongly recommend you check out Michael Brown's podcast called "Buyer Keywords List and How to Use Them in Affiliate Marketing". You can check it out here.

He also provides a buyer keyword list that you can practice with. This is something you can do to get you used to understanding buyer keywords.

This is why it's important to understand the market you are targeting. Really, the best way to think about keywords is to imagine how you as a customer in that market might potentially type into a search engine. It's a common mistake for people new to affiliate marketing to only look at the search volume of keywords without considering the nature of the keyword and it's likelyhood of conversion.

This is why discount sites and coupon sites can do well...and why there is typically a great deal of competition in the discount and coupon space. If a customer is looking for a discount or coupon for a product, it's pretty likely that that particular customer is ready to buy.

Again, check out Michael Brown's podcast called "Buyer Keywords List and How to Use Them in Affiliate Marketing". You can check it out here.
