If you are an author, CEO of a company, or a broadcaster, etc, you will most definitely want to hire a reputation management company. If you deliver good information and keep your reputation clean, in most cases you will get positive feedback. But then there are those who are jealous and petty and will try to bring you down.

There will also be people who will be critical of your work without having any malicious intent. They will write up negative reviews about your book if you are an author, your services, or what have you. It is absolutely critical whenever you come across a negative review online, regardless of what kind of individual provided it to not respond to it at all.

If you Lose your Cool, you also Lose a Positive Reputation

What you need to do if you come across something negative that was said about you is to let your reputation management company handle it. You don’t do anything unless your reputation management company tells you otherwise. For instance, if you had an angry customer leaving a negative review because your services were less than satisfactory, that is when you can contact the customer, apologize, and give a discount for any future services you would provide. That will help your reputation.

However, you never, ever contact someone who has left a negative review about something you did or a book you had written to tell them off. It may be tempting to do that, but never do that. Your response will become viral very fast and before you know it, your reputation will go down. Last year it happened to an author. Someone had left this author a negative review and the author had told the reviewer off in a very inappropriate way. It went viral very quickly and someone had even said to the author “Even after the review itself I was curious about your book, but now I want nothing to do with it or you”. That will get around, and it will be very difficult to rebuild your reputation if you lose your cool.

Again, let your reputation management company handle negative responses or reviews to anything you have done and stay out of it. That will save your reputation, regardless of what was said about you.
