How Survior Helps Us Understand Joint Ventures

Posted 02-04-2009 at 10:12 AM by Rivers Corbett

Joint Ventures are like the alliances on Survivor, they are all about strategy. You form a partnership with someone and come together to use each others knowledge, markets and profits so you can business to another level. The benefits you get from Joint Ventures are saving time by shortening the learning process of expanding into other markets, developing new products, productivity improvements, enhance the companies credibility and lots more.
The key is to keep these 4 things in mind at all times. 1. is to set clear goals. A clear goal and a clear plan on how to get that goal will make the Joint Venture adventure a lot smoother. This doesn't begin after the start of the Joint Venture, it begins at the thought to start a Joint Venture. You need to think of what you want, what you're trying to gain and what you're willing to sacrifice to get it. When this is all clear, yo go to key number 2.

Finding the right partner is next. You may want to form a Joint Venture with a certain company, but they could have completely different goals and views as you have, so what ever you thought of for rule number 1 helps in this picking process. When you do find a few good companies that maybe work well with you the you to to Key number 3.

Number 3 is the Venture Plan. You need to send proposals to your top choices, these proposals customized to fit their company, the benefit they could gain from you and the opportunities you may share. Do not make the mistake of sending one proposal to all the companies as that kind of slack wont cut it. Think of it this way, peanut butter and jelly go great together, peanut butter and chocolate also great together, but jelly and chocolate? Definitely not. You're trying to show a possible a win-win situation to a possible partner, show them that you did your homework.

Lastly, manage the relationship. Once you've made your choice, contracts have been signed, make sure you live up to your promise. A Joint Venture is like a marriage between businesses, you need to communicate with each other, trust each other and keep the understanding flowing. Don't jump into making decisions too quickly, make sure you do your research and studies. This is not a game, it's a make it or break it situation.

Here's to your success!
