Search Engine Optimization

We all want our clients to be at the top of the search engine results and the most important search engine is Google. The facts concerning Google search engine optimization can be difficult to determine. To protect the quality of results, Google keeps their methods secret.
All is not lost because you can do your own research to find out the most important factors governing the search results. The truth behind on-page optimization can be found where you least expect. Now is the time to play word games with Google search and find out what we can learn.
We need to search for an odd phrase with no possibility of any Website having any relevant content. We are trying to force the Google search engine into looking at the words themselves and not some link promoted phrase or subject covered by an article. We want to find out what Google will do with only the words themselves so we pick a stupid and unrelated mix of words for our phrase.
First, search for the standard phrase: Web Developer in NYC
A sensible set of return results are presented together with the local Google Map. The results have a bold highlighting on the key words which Google believes are important to your search. These are not the same words which you enter but associated and important words connected with the phrase or search words you use. You get 'New York' and 'New York City' for your NYC.
Before you dash off and almost spam your web page and web site with 'Web Developer' you may have neglected to see the context relevance of the Google search results.
Take a second look at the search results and notice the highlighted 'Company' word. We did not search for 'Company' did we! Your search for a 'web developer' has been widened to infer an interest in 'web developer company'. To be on-page relevant to this search you need to use the word 'Company' in your description of a web developer.
The same can be said for making relevance to the word 'Company' so your web developer Website needs to show the signs of being a 'Company' such as 'Investor Relations' statement and pages like: Terms and Conditions, Website Packages, Why Use Us, Contact Us. Very soon you can see that your Website needs to be fully authentic.
There are some easy ways you can put a Website together and have it ranking quickly but it is not worth the trouble to do things this way. Sooner or later the processing power Google uses allows their smart brainy people to detect any grey or black hat methods. You only create a future financial panic and work for yourself if you should use these methods.
Tell it as it is; 'if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it's indeed a duck'!
Next, we search for a stupid association of words: kitchen silk ladder
Check that no content exists with this phrase by search for: "kitchen silk ladder"
Zero match results so we are OK and this combination of words will never be associated with one another - until this article is out!
The Google results show all three words close to one another. The Pay-Per-Click finds relevance in 'Ladder' so ladder is the important word. 'Kitchen' is also important and the combined phrase 'kitchen ladder' is a well known commercial item. It is the commercial relevance of the word which drives the importance of the word.
From a commercial perspective the bold search highlights 'Stepladder' and this is inferring that the content of a kitchen ladder offer should be associated with stepladders.
Next time your web developer advises you about web design and site structure it should be based on related themes. In fact it should be based on what is natural and common sense.
