Would you like me to donate?

Note: Zirona.com is the first site I’ve found, which really cares about those who donate. By the way, they have a wonderful free Advanced Search Plugin for WordPress. They also have an lightspeed, outstanding support : it took less than 5 minutes to receive an answer. It also worth mentioning that the link to my site appeared within seconds after donation.
You wrote a wonderful program, you put it on your website and you gave it free to everyone interested. Your talent and skills made a beautiful program. You received praise from many who downloaded your program.
But it’s not enough. You would like me to donate.
Let’s look at this matter, from another point of view, a balanced one.
You wanted recognition and praise. You wrote a nice program.
You wanted traffic to your website. You gave the program free.
You want donations. You give … . Well, what do you give in exchange?
I saw many times this phrase, “Donating will encourage me to continue”. If praises are not enough for you to continue, I can make a nice review about your program on my site. If the extra traffic is still not enough, and the money will make you happy, that’s fine. But I want something in exchange for that money. I want a link to my site/name on the donation page. You don’t have a donation page? Well, I’ll wait until you’ll make one.
Yes, I heard about the persons who donate anonymously. Would you give your program anonymously, removing any elements that could allow me to find your site, having only the program? I bet you don’t. Then, please, don’t expect me to donate anonymously.
I’ll be glad to donate if you offer a link in exchange. I am not absurd to ask for a link on your main page. I want it on the donation page. After all, I’ll donate some of my money, not all of them. That’s why I’m not asking for a link on the main page.
Some said “Even $1 is okay”. If $10 is different than $1 for you, then, please, order the donors based on the amount donated, not on the day when you received the donation.
Make me feel good if I donate. Brag to others, “Look how many have donated to me”. Don’t think only about you, about what you want to get. Would YOU donate, if the situation were reversed?
I saw sometimes, “If you use it commercially, please consider donating.”. It looks to me like powerless envy. It’s something like, “Others are profiting from my work - it’s not fair.”. If you feel that way, and it’s not a shame, take an example from IrfanView: that wonderful program is free for personal use, but they require a license for commercial use.
Nobody will be upset. It will seem fair to all (well, at least to most of all). Why hiding behind the finger? Your work deserves money. Please have the courage to ask for a proper recognition (including a financial one)!
