My blog where I say what's on my mind. My hope is that it will make some people think. For the rest...hopefully it wasn't a waste of 5 minutes of their time.

It's The End Of The World As We Know It

Great little tune, don't you think? I remember the first time I heard REM's classic. I had no idea what they were singing about.
Now I do.
The world is constantly changing. The end of the old world has come and gone more times than I can count. Think about it. Look back to the 70s or 80s, or however far back you can remember.
Are things the same?
In 1979, when I first started writing my own music, the recording studio I put together was a joke next to what I have today. Then, it was a Teac A3440 4 channel reel to reel tape recorder.
Today it's a Boss BR900 CD with virtually unlimited tracks with the digital bouncing capability that it has.
And don't even get me started on the improvement in sound synthesis. Back then, we didn't have anything close to real sounding strings. Today, it's scary what a Korg Triton can do. And even THAT is considered old by today's standards.
Yes, the world is changing in so many ways.
So has making a living in it.
Back in the early 80s when I graduated college, the Internet wasn't an option for earning a living. How I wish it was. It would have saved me a lot of grief.
Back then, if you wanted to go into business for yourself, it was the brick and mortar world. Sure, you could work out of your home doing mail order if you wanted, but the cost could eat you alive...especially if you didn't show a profit right away.
I don't even know where I would have gotten my leads from back then.
What would I have sold to them?
Today, it's a whole different ball game. Informational products have made it so that you can deliver anything to anybody in the blink of an eye.
And the cost? It's almost non existent.
I spend about $200 a month on my business.
I earn over 10K.
Yeah, I know. That's not a ton of money. I've been told by members of this forum that they spend more than 10K a month on outsourcing. Well, I run a small business and I like it that way. My profit margin is certainly through the roof.
My business model isn't everybody's cup of tea. That's understandable. I don't expect it to be. The truth is, with what I know about marketing and copywriting, I could make a lot more than I do.
So why don't I?
Oh, lots of reasons. Probably the biggest one is pure laziness. I'm happy with the way I do things now. It's not stressful. I don't have to look over the shoulders of others to make sure they don't screw me over. I have no one to answer to but me. I work when I want and I play when I want.
Heck, I just went back into the recording studio for the first time in over 5 years. I'm almost finished with my first CD in that time. It's going to have 16 songs on it. All original material.
Life's good...and the world keeps changing.
The world as we know it today may be a totally different one 10 years from now.
That is why we, as marketers, have to keep up with what's going on. Ebay just laid off 1500 workers. Did you hear? You can no longer sell digital info products at Ebay unless you put them on a CD or DVD. This has put a lot of people who relied solely on Ebay out of business.
That's why I don't put all my eggs in one basket. Some would say that I'm too scattered. That's okay. At least I don't have to worry that one product not selling will put me out of business. I have so many products out there, my own and affiliate, that I never have to worry about one thing drying up and killing me.
And I will continue to look for things to sell.
And that is ultimately the theme of this blog entry and blog itself...selling.
Over the next few days, weeks, months or whatever, I'm going to share some tidbits with you on selling and other related stuff. I'll focus on selling strategies, copywriting, article writing and a lot of psychological stuff that will help you to understand why people do and don't do what they do when it comes to buying or not buying your product.
Anyway, I hope you liked this little introduction. No sales pitch or anything. Just some straight talk from a straight shooter.
Yes, it's the end of the world as we know it.
Are YOU ready for the New World Order?
