If you are using API to add your subscribers to your leads, you are set to double optin first. That means your subscribers get an email where they need to confirm that they want to receive your email. Now most of the internet marketers recommend to NOT use double optin because most of the subscribers will not confirm your email (for whatever reasons). So it’s best to switch it off.

An example where you would need the API is JVZoo. Let’s say you sell your own product there and as soon as someone buys your product you want to have them on your buyers list automatically. JVZoo will put all buyers into your buyers list, but therefore you need to connect JVZoo with your GetResponse account via API.

Also if you use LeadPages, it’s the easiest thing to put your subscribers into your list via API.

If you are a member of GetResponse you can easily get this changed to single optin. What you have to do is send an email to gr-compliance@cs.implix.com or fill out this online form here: https://app.getresponse.com/feedback.html?optin=yes

Note: You have to answer all the questions in the form otherwise they will not approve your request (also if you send directly an email, answer the questions)! Also add a link to your pricacy policy on your opt-in page. I have always been set on single optin when I provided all this information.

You have to request single optin for every single campaign. You won’t be set on single optin for every campaign in your account.

If you want to know a little more about API, read this page

Quick definition of API at the GetResponse site:
API (or application programming interface) is a technical way to allow communication between two different and normally incompatible systems. It describes how these system can interact with each other. To summarize, this is a way to connect your application directly to our service. Using our API you could:
• Manage contacts
• Create campaigns, send newsletter and monitor results
• Generate reports and review statistics
• Create an autoresponder cycle to put your campaigns into autopilot mode

I have also posted a video about this topic on my blog, you can watch it here:
