Are You A Writer Or A Content Churner?

Posted 01-03-2011 at 06:46 PM by Sylvia Meier

Too often online, people assume you cannot write for someone else and get paid anymore than a cent a word. Yes, one penny per word. The problem with this is not the market. The problem lies with the writers themselves.

You see they hear the “rumours” that all you can ask for per word is one cent. And they take that as the gospel. After all, they hear it over and over again. We will call this writer, writer b.

Then they hear of other writers that write for 4, 5 or even 6 cents or more a word and they don't believe it. We will call the writers that fall into this category writer a.

Often times, there is little difference between the two priced writers. I said often times, not every time, there are some writers that don't even deserve the one cent! The difference lies in one writer knowing their worth and asking for it, and the other one falling victim to the misinformation that is the internet.

Another difference between writer a and writer b is that writer a markets themselves. They believe they are worth that amount and more. They believe the written content that they are supplying their clients with is worth their asking price. They create a market, instead of forcing themselves to fit into writer b's market. They create the need for higher quality content. And they produce it. Regularly.

Neither writer is wrong. They both serve a purpose. There will always be a need for writer b. There will always be a market that will willingly take articles that sounds like a 6 year old wrote them. And there will also always be a need for writer a. Simply because writer a creates the need. They create the demand, and refuse to sell their wares for any less.

Look at any online market and I guarantee, you'll see writer a's and writer b's. And I bet if you ask either of them, they'll have more work than they can handle, because both of them have markets, both of them have an endless stream of potential clients.

I will also guarantee writer a's aren't suffering from burnout trying to support themselves. While writer b's are very quickly burnt out and unable to continue churning out content at a level needed to sustain themselves, writer a's are providing their clients with content, without ever having to worry they can't produce enough content to just survive.

You can make a conscious decision to be one writer or the other. A cautionary note though, writer a isn't just a writer, they are a marketer. A marketer who understands how to sell themselves and create a market where one didn't exist before.
