Tips for Writing Article Titles That Grab a Reader's Attention

Posted 01-05-2011 at 09:50 AM by Sylvia Meier

Article marketing can be difficult. So many people claim it is the easiest, quickest way to see your first dollars online. Unfortunately, that couldn't be further from the truth. Writing articles that captivate the readers and gets them to do what you want actually takes time and effort. The good news is, there are some ways you can make it easier.

In fact, here's 5 tips to improve your article writing.

Tip 1

Write as though you are talking to someone.

Conversational tones are much more interesting, and much more likely to keep the readers attention. If you write as you would talk to a friend about the topic, you'll keep your readers right to the end.

Tip 2

Don't be overly wordy.

Think about it like this. You're talking to someone and they are dragging through their story. What could have have been said in a couple of minutes takes them 20 to spit out. An article is no different. Cut the extra fluff and crap and get to the point quickly. Something to remember here is that we live in an age of wanting things quickly. Getting our information is no different.
Tip 3
Know what you're talking about. Nothing is worse than reading an article written by someone who really has no idea about the topic. The article ends up full of fluff and filler, and really doesn't say much of anything. This is a sure fire way to lose that potential customer. Make sure you do your research before you ever type a word.

Having some knowledge before you attempt to write about something is much better than fumbling through it.

Tip 4

Skip the big words.

Most readers online only have a grade 6 reading level. Don't use big words, unless you have to.

Something else that plays into this tip is knowing your intended audience. Sometimes you'll need to write at that 6 grade level, other times you may be able to write at a higher education level and still get through to your reader.

Tip 5

Check your spelling and grammar.

Nothing is worse than trying to stumble your way through an article where the writer obviously has very little interest in ensuring the article is error free. Some errors are bound to slip past even the best writers, but they won't be found in every second sentence.

Article marketing can be quite simple if you discover ways to make it easier. Knowing a little before you get started writing can make a big difference.
