Embracing Social Media to Generate Traffic

Posted 02-07-2012 at 08:14 PM by Tadresources

With the emergence of social media, a prime market has developed for generating traffic and advertising your IM endeavors. Of course, finding the right social media platform for your needs is a matter of knowing your market. Fortunately, two of the most popular social media platforms offer outstanding benefits regardless of your business or the product you are trying to sell.

The first of the big two is Twitter. If you have somehow missed this heavy-hitter in the social media scene, the entire community revolves around making short 140-character posts. Of course, this leaves little space to promote, so sharp and cohesive copy is essential.

Since two of the biggest benefits of Twitter are retweets and hashtags, you should also allow a little room at the end of every post for a relevant hashtag. Leaving a few characters of space free also helps to ensure that if you are retweeted, your message will not be truncated.

The next social media site is one of the newest on the scene—Google+. The power of Google+ lies in its circles. These are groups you can create to deliver content and updates with pinpoint accuracy. While it might take a little learning, the way that Google+ allows you to group your audience and target members and subgroups makes it ideal for split testing, traffic tracking and promotional opportunities.

As an example, you could deliver a different link to the same squeeze page to three distinct circles on your Google+ profile that were created based on age. Analyzing the response can provide valuable information on your current audience that few other social media platforms have the ability to discern. This will certainly be one of the separating factors as IM and Google+ continue to develop throughout the year.
