By far the most vital component to an effective web page or article is a compelling headline. The reason for this of course is that it is the first thing your visitors will see when they hit your page. What follows are some ideas to help you make your headline into a powerful one:

1) Way before you sit down to write your headline, contemplate for a moment on what you want to accomplish with your article or web page. Are you selling something on it or are you just sharing great information...

A funny thing happened to me this past week. Amidst the deadlines … client meetings … and other chaos, I rediscovered how much I truly love direct response marketing.

All because a book literally fell off my bookshelf.

My family and I recently moved into a new house, you see. And in the interest of unpacking as quickly as possible, I had simply shoveled books on the bookshelves....

One of the factors that made amateur copywriting so easy for me, was the fact that I already had a lot of article writing experience to the point where people would tell me, "I feel like you are writing directly to me. How do you do that?" The answer is you need to write your articles, and most of all, your copywriting, as if you are writing a letter. A letter that you are mailing to just one specific person, your ideal prospect.

A terrific resource for coming up with headlines is the article directory. In case you have never seen them, article directories are sites where authors submit content that can be distributed for free, in the hopes that ezine publishers will redistribute them which leads to more traffic and more linkbacks. Other people use article directories for keyword and content research, and you can use them for copywriting research.
