1 Simple E-Mail Cuts Customer Support By Up To 90%
Posted 08-07-2008 at 12:39 AM by Thomas
Some years ago, I used a template in an e-book that I can't remember to create an e-mail that is automatically sent to customers at the time of purchase (in addition to offering the download directly from the download page).
It eliminated almost all of the queries and complaints I used to get about download problems from people who aren't very computer savvy. (Although, obviously, it doesn't work for those who's ISP blocked the e-mail - or those who just don't read things - but they were only a very tiny percentage.)
It works very well with e-junkie.com but will likely work with just about any download system.
I'm sure many people already do this but, if not, to save you the trouble of creating one from scratch, here's mine for you to steal at will:
...
Hello [%first_name%]:
You, or a person in your household, just purchased "[%item_name%]". Thank you for your business!
Please read this e-mail carefully. It contains important information about your purchase.
**********
1. How do I download the report?
**********
If, for some reason, the report didn't *automatically* download onto your computer immediately after payment, please try again by following this link now:
[%download_link%]
(This link will expire in [%expiry_hours%] hours, or after you make [%max_downloads%] download attempts, whichever comes first.)
You should save the report to your "desktop" so you can find it quickly and easily once you have finished downloading it.
(On some older computers, it might open the file directly on your screen when you click on the download link. If this happens, and you're on a slow web connection, allow time for it to load fully (check that you can scroll right to the last page!), and then save it as above.)
**********
2. How do I open the report?
**********
"[%item_name%]" is a PDF (Portable Document File), so your computer will have to be able to read those. Most already can but, if not, you can get FREE software to enable you to do so (called Adobe Acrobat Reader) from:
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrob...adstep2.html
When you have downloaded the report onto your computer's desktop (or whatever folder you have saved it in), then simply double-click the file and it should open in Adobe Acrobat Reader.
If it does not automatically open in Adobe Acrobat Reader – then open Adobe Acrobat Reader by clicking "Start" >> "Programs" >> "Adobe Acrobat" >> "Acrobat Reader".
Once you open the Adobe Acrobat Reader program, click "File" >> "Open" >> then (if you saved the file to your "desktop") go to your "desktop" and open the file.
This should open the file in Adobe Acrobat Reader.
(If you open the file in Adobe Acrobat Reader and it's all garbled (or otherwise unreadable), this means you have an old version of Adobe Acrobat Reader; the report needs version 5 (or greater). In this case, you'll need to download an up-dated version of Adobe Acrobat Reader from the link mentioned above.)
Adobe Acrobat Reader comes with an extensive "Help" file – if you have any questions about how to operate the program – please open the Adobe Acrobat Reader program, click "Help", and make the appropriate selection.

3. What will my credit-card charges say?
**********
The name “CLKBANK*COM” (the company who processed your payment) will appear on your credit card statement. It will NOT indicate the name of the product your bought.
**********
4. I have a different question!
**********
If you have a question about downloading, viewing, or printing the report, please just reply to this e-mail and explain the problem in as much detail as you can.
We will reply as soon as possible. (Please keep in mind that we may not be in the same time-zone as you and are **usually** closed on weekends and some public-holidays).
