eBook Shop: How Do I Build My Own?

Posted 10-14-2008 at 08:38 PM by TiffanyDow

If you have the itch to become an eBook sales king or queen, you have to know how to set up shop. Once you have your own material to sell, you have a great start. Here’s your main question about an eBook shop: How do I build my own? When you get the answer to that question, you’ll be well on your way.

Let’s get right down to nuts and bolts – your first step to building your eBook shop is to set up a website. The name of your website, or the domain name, is of key importance. This is one of the ways that search engines will find and rank your site and also how your customers will find you.

Without going into deep detail, check out this example: You’re doing an online search for wallpaper that’s cheap or discounted. Someone out there has a website named cheapwallpaper.com, and someone else has a site named prettywalls.com.

Which do you think will show up higher in the rankings if you do a search for “cheap wallpaper?” This is oversimplifying, but it’s important. The name of your domain makes a difference. Make sure it’s reasonably short and tells what your site is about and who you’re targeting.

Another note about your website – choose a good site host! You need to shop for a host that has a record of good customer service and reliability. This is of the utmost importance because you can’t afford lots of downtime for your site, or site glitches.

Create your eBook shop’s site design with search engine optimization (SEO) in mind. Everything you put on the site needs to be geared towards getting noticed by search engines. Awhile back, this meant stuffing your site with keywords to the point of being ridiculous.

Not so anymore - but you still have to pay attention to keywords. Site design for your eBook shop is important as well. If you’re starting to hyperventilate right now because you’re not a computer whiz, don’t.

There are site design programs available that make it very easy to design your website. If you can follow simple instructions, you can design a great SEO site. And if you need to, you can outsource the whole process!

The details of completing your site and getting it up and running are many, but again, this is something that you can do with the right tools and good hosting support. Now that you have a site, you need to set up your eBook shop so that your customers can make a purchase and get their goods delivered automatically.

There are a couple of ways this can be accomplished, but one of the easiest ways is to use ClickBank or a similar service like PayDotCom. ClickBank is an Internet marketplace that offers thousands and thousands of products - mostly eBooks.

You can sign up as a publisher with ClickBank and use their service to sell your product(s). ClickBank handles the entire process for you – and pays your affiliates who send you business, too!

This is important for follow-ups and more sales. The ClickBank sign up and set up process for your eBook shop are fairly easy – just follow directions, and you’ll be up and running quickly. The first step in developing your own eBook shop is to have an SEO friendly site - and the second is to have a vehicle for selling your eBook and collecting your revenue. Once you’ve got these in place, the results will be a continuous flow of sales!
