I have a wide range of tips to share with fellow Warriors - from teaching you how to write better (or smarter) to helping you learn how to wield the power of web 2.0 sites like Squidoo, Hub Pages, and Google Knol.

I have made tens of thousands of dollars on the Warrior Forum alone and I'm always willing to help others learn the ropes if they just ask. I wanted to create my Warrior Forum blog to build an in-house area for questions and answers among marketers, so sound off in my comments area and I'll help you as best as I can and if I can't, I'll find someone who will.

How Are Squidoo Lenses and HubPages Alike – and Different?

Posted 09-27-2008 at 11:01 AM by TiffanyDow

First, they’re both easy – once you know what you’re doing. I can create a Squidoo lens and a Hub Page in less than 30 minutes – and updating them is easy, too. This is why I love both of these sites… now.

Each one is created with sections of building blocks – it’s not like an Ezine Article where you have a set chunk of space to fill up with your expertise. Everything’s worded a bit differently – it’s module on Squidoo and capsule on HubPages when you’re talking about the sections you can add to your page.

Plus, you can bolster the pages on both sites with images to make it stand out for your visitors. Your title will vary a bit. On Squidoo, you’re known as a lensmaster. On HubPages, you’re an author – just like on EZA.

For help, both sites have official forums. SquidU is the Squidoo lensmaster forum, while HubPages has their own forum here: Forums.

Both sites allow lengthy sections of content on each page – with Squidoo, Text modules have a 10,000 character limit, which is very long. HubPages has no restrictions (me likey!).

Each site has pros and cons to it, and I aim to give you an honest accounting of both.

1.) Depending on your niche, this may not matter, but Squidoo allows adult (R and X rated) content, while Hub Pages did away with that awhile ago.

2.) Hate it when Squidoo gets sluggish when you’re trying to add the modules? HubPages is pretty fast in that arena. You won’t get caught in the drag and drop. This always bugs me on a Squidoo lens – I often have to log out and start all over again, but HubPages just quickly reorders the capsules however you want them to be.

3.) The capsules are right there in a list while you’re building the Hub Page, so to add one as you go, you just point and click where Squidoo makes you go to another page to add modules. However, Squidoo has way more (and way cooler) modules, so the pages look awesome.

4.) Squidoo allows HTML code so you can make the lens look unique. For instance, I can have a larger font in a different color if I want to highlight some text. HubPages only lets you click their Bold, Italics, links, etc. I can also left align images if I want to on Squidoo – have to float right on HP.

5.) HubPages only requires a published page to have one capsule (yea!). Squidoo requires it to have at least 3 – not including the introduction and guestbook – or else it won’t be found within the Squidoo search.

6.) When a visitor leaves you a comment in your guestbook on Squidoo, they’re limited to 1,000 characters! On HubPages, there’s no limit, so the feedback you get can be quite helpful. Plus, when they contribute to your Hub in the form of a guestbook entry, it helps add content to your Hub for the search engines!

7.) Hub Pages claim they get 4 times as much traffic than Squidoo (when you filter out the porn traffic Squidoo gets, which sends them over the top). There’s a heated debate about this. Who knows who’s right? I’m just putting it out there as I heard it.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. There are many perks Hub Pages offers, and I love it that both sites have some unique benefits to offer us for our marketing efforts. Over the coming chapters, you’re going to learn how to create a Hub Page the right way.

Many marketers have recently complained that their Hubs were getting “deleted” from the system and it was without warning. Usually, they’re not deleted, but unpublished if something’s wrong – and most of it has to do with violating TOS about links, but I’ll clue you in on that so that you’re not floundering on the site wondering what makes it tick.

I build Hub Pages for Warriors if you need help and original professional content to go with it. Check it out here: Warrior Special Offer
