Hi there I was wondering if anyone had any experience in the drop shipping of Adult toys and items? I am well aware it is a very competitive market but I am sure if you get it right it could be quite lucrative. A couple of questions:- Does anyone have any experience of a good UK/European based Adult drop shipper? The problem I see is the amount of items these guys stock. Would you suggest build your own eCommerce site and concentrate of say 30 items to start off with. Or plug directly into one of the drop shippers pre made sites (at a cost) which do all the work for you? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |

I use a dropshipper in the Uk and I do not have to pay anything up front, I just get notified when someone makes a purchase to me, this gets paid to my paypal account, then I log into my dropshipper, place the order and pay the wholesale price and they send it out in my name, deal with all returns etc. Profit is roughly 30% which allows me to make special offers, run sales etc. Actually, I don't have the time or money to promote the site as I also have a number of other sites I am working on so it does not have that great a turnover at the moment, if you are interested in starting in this business I might sell it all to you if you are interested in an immediate startup. You MUST be aware that you need to promote this site, or your own, though or it will go nowhere. Clint | |

Hi Clint Thanks for your answer. A few questions if you do not mind:- Did you set the site up yourself? Do you add all the products to site yourself? Does the drop shipping company supply all the pictures for your site? Do the prices change all the time with the drop shipping company for the products? If so how do you keep on top of it? Do you set you own prices for the items or does the drop shipping company tell you roughly what to sell for? Many thanks for your help so far and look forward to hearing from you soon. Regards Darren |

Hi JackStriker, I also have an adult dropship store so can answer some of your questions. The problem I see is the amount of items these guys stock. Would you suggest build your own eCommerce site and concentrate of say 30 items to start off with. Firstly you want to be making a profit, not just turning over money. I recommend only selling medium to higher priced items and preferably brand name products. Don't waste your time with 1000's of products. Resell a few 100 of the good ones and over time you will find which ones sell better, then focus on them. The only low cost items you want to be selling are accessories like lube etc. which have high margins and are almost always in addition to a more expensive item. Did you set the site up yourself? With setting up the website there are a lot of options. There's many shopping carts and also hosted solutions. In the past I/my business have worked with SimpleCartJS, Cubecart, Magento, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, osCommerce, Shopify, CMSMS, Jooma/VirtueMart and WP-Ecommerce. There are advantages and disadvantages to all, but more and more we are using WooCommerce (based on WordPress). It's flexible, easy and cheap. There are also a lot of themes including 3rd party themes so the sites are clean, easy to navigate and look great. Do you add all the products to site yourself? When I started out I used to add products myself, but it's very easy and cheap to outsource data entry, as long as you train them correctly you won't have issues. If there are complex product variations you can do a screen recording of you adding a product or just add a few and get them to copy what you have done. Does the drop shipping company supply all the pictures for your site? The best answer is sometimes. More often than not though the manufacturer/brand of the product will have the best images on their website so go get them from there. If they are not readily available on the website you can often request them either directly from the brand themselves or the wholesaler. Once you obtain the images you can pass them on to your outsourced worker to add them at the same time as the products. Do the prices change all the time with the drop shipping company for the products? If so how do you keep on top of it? In my experience the prices don't change that much although there may be small fluctuations. Generally you want to have a big enough profit margin that a small change in price won't matter that much. With a lot of products in your store there is no real efficient way to 'keep on top of it'. The best approach is to tackle each change as you come across it. eg. The other day I had a customer place an order, I then find out the wholesaler is no longer stocking it. I simply notified the customer, apologized and offered a similar product for a cheaper price - done deal. Same thing with price changes. If the next time you are processing an order and you see the price has increased, you can increase it on your website then. I know its a reactive approach but honestly checking all products pricing regularly is a giant waste of time and energy and is not an activity that will generate you any more money. Sorry for the long response I got on a roll there lol. Hope that answers some questions Darren. |

Nice 1 Pavv! Thank you for getting on a roll!! That has really helped me a lot. Going to do a little research today. Have you been in this business for long and how is it going for you? Are you using a drop shipper in Australia? Once again thank you for your help. Darren |

Darren, I started my first ecommerce store in 2008. It was slow going and really didn't make that much money for the 18 months I had it. I ended up selling the site because I was too busy to run it while working full time, but was not making anywhere near enough money to quit my job (I was buying from the supplier and packing orders myself - huge time and money waste). It was definitely worth the time and effort though. I think the best way of learning is having a go and learning from your mistakes. I had about a year away from ecommerce but got back in to it doing things differently. All my stores dropship so no more product handling. Product selection is important, I don't sell products if I can't make money off them. I only sell to Australia at the moment, there are less buyers but also much less competition. I have suppliers in Australia and China. |
