Hi Warriors, Just heard a podcast where Aweber revealed how adding a 3 letter word to their order process increased their trial signups by ... 12%! Want to know what this word is? It's the word ... "Now". The most likely rationale for this is because it creates certainty and urgency for their prospects. As with all things in split testing, do test it out for yourself and see if that is true for you as well. What might work for them does not necessarily work in your particular context. Off to do some split testing shortly ... Chat soon! P.S. Have you had any similar split tests before where adding / removing a word increased your conversions? Do share your findings too! |

Thanks for the tip! "Today only" is a phrase that consistently gets good results for me, as opposed to words like 'urgent' or 'limited time' which both give off sort of a spammy vibe. |

Upsells and downsells do pretty well if you add on a: "If you miss this offer now, you will never be offered this insane deal ever" just like "Now", time-limiting phrases tend to enhance the impulse buying aspect of consumers. Ed |

I have read that such words as "You", "Imagine", "Because" are also good. The first is all about a buyer. The second is about dreams. The last gives reason to buy something. The problem is sometimes my copy could not tolerate the word "because", it was too long. I have tried creating a copy with "Imagine" and without it. Imagine got more clicks.

Some studies I read indicated that the word free as well as the use of CAPS had no impact on open rate: Email Subject Lines That Work | Brent Jones Online When you say 'increase conversion rates' do you mean just that, or do you mean increase open rates? Not trying to argue with you. Just trying to understand if I got bad information. | |

I think in totality, it's a case to case basis. It's not always that 'free' will work and it's not every time that it won't either. It depends on the historical user experience, the awesomeness of your product/service and the overall impact of your page/site whether it will work or not. It's tough to just simply attribute an increase in conversions to a word or a phrase.
