Critique My Business Plan...
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

Hello, I've been doing a lot of research on how to get my online business off the ground and would like to share some ideas on the plan I'm looking at putting into motion. I would love to have some honest feedback/critiques on what I could do better, doing right or wrong, etc.

Just so you know, my business is related to health. I've written an eBook, recorded an audiobook and have a membership option for continuing education and, of course, 1x1 coaching options.

Here is what I plan to do:

1) Setup a landing/squeeze page that will give visitors a free eBook (which is actually a 12 page version of my full eBook, more of a "jump-start" guide). This page will capture their email and give them the free download.

2) The free download will have links to my YouTube, Facebook and Website where they can learn more and hopefully become a paid member.

3) Paid members to my site will have access to my full eBooks, audiobook, private coaching videos and other resources.

4) Even though my budget is extremely small at this time, I think it's best to invest in a mailing list program since it will drive the overall business and lead me to making money. I understand GetRespone or Aweber are highly recommended.

5) With this list, I can build a relationship with subscribers and send them updates on new YouTube videos, health tips, etc. and hopefully convert them into paid subscribers eventually.

Now... the question then becomes, how do I drive traffic to this landing page? Below are my ideas on how it can be done, to start, with little to no expense:

1) YouTube... with an audience second only to Google, I would think it's important to make videos that, at the end, give viewers a "call to action" over to my landing page for their free download. Of course, this also gives me a subscriber and potential customer.

2) Blogging... this will give me unique content indexed by Google that will eventually drive visitors to my site and will, hopefully, build credibility and confidence for bothy myself and the product. I could use the transcription text from my YouTube videos to populate my blog so I'm not under the gun to write fresh content every day on top of everything else I need to do (some not even related to this project). I plan on having new YouTube videos every day, so this will easily help with fresh blog content as well. The blog will also link to the free download and hopefully gain subscribers.

3) Post Fiverr Gig... Create a gig on Fiverr so the end result is I send them something free which includes the free download offer. In exchange, I get them on my mailing list. I understand this may be slow going but at least it's another potential revenue stream that is free to start up and will basically work itself.

4) Buy Fiver Gig... I can also use Fiver to connect with people I feel can bring my product to my target audience. This could be in the form of a twitter blast, Facebook post or perhaps an interview on a health related podcast or website. There is a lot of junk and scams on Fiverr but I believe if used smartly, could produce nice returns for a small investment.

5) Interacting with people... while this is free, it can be time consuming. I'm talking about engaging people on Facebook, YouTube in the comments sections or joining forums and leaving my signature w/landing page link, etc.

So far, everything I've mentioned is either free or relatively cheap. Once the income increases or I'm able to invest more some other options are Solo Ads, CPC with perhaps Google, Bing or maybe some of the more reputable paid services.

So that's what I'm thinking to begin with... I'd like to know what people think. What am I missing? What could be better? What do I have right? Any and all comments are welcome.

Thanks so much!

No... what I have right now is a membership plugin added to my WordPress site.

Do you have a list of influencers you can reach out to? For purposes such as:
Guest posting
Critiquing your content
Sharing your stuff

Fiverr can only go so far. In the end, the traffic it gives you is not as qualified as those coming from influeners in your target niche.

I agree, Fiverr is just free exposure that I could put out there... no real expectations there. If I understand you correctly, are you asking if I have built a mailing list within my niche? So far no, but my next step is to do just that... create a subscriber base/sales funnel and leaning towards Aweber for the backend. What would you advise for someone like myself who's looking to build a list within their niche and starting with very little budget? I intend to reinvest money that's made back into growing the business... but I need to get the "snowball" rolling first.

Not really a mailing list but a list of influencers in your niche. For example, if I'm in the CRO business, I'd build relationships with people like Peep Laja, Neil Patel, Oli Gardner - big names who have a huge following. You'll want to help them out with something, comment on their blogs, tweet them, etc. Get their attention and ask them to help you out with sharing your content. If you're lucky you might even land a guest post in their blog.

Grind for those connections and build those relationships. I guarantee you, it'll be the best effort and time you'll spend building your business.

Mailing lists like Aweber is secondary.

Thanks for the advice SEOHacker. I checked out some of the names you mention and they are, no doubt, very valuable resources.

Seems like you've got a pretty good handle on things.

I would say unless your content is REALLY mind-blowing, sending them to your facebook and youtube from your e-book is probably a bad idea. You've already gotten someone, who you probably paid for, who is interested what you got and connected enough with your message to opt-in and you are going to send him to places that ALL your biggest competitors are? Just a thought...

It's like a brink-and-mortar business not putting their phone number on their website so that all their customers have to go to the yellow pages and look through their competitors to find them.

Using your Facebook and YouTube to drive traffic to your squeeze page... much safer.

Sounds well planned, and SEOhacker gave some really useful advice there.. Just one quick thought. You might want to have some kind of exit intent popup on your site to recapture those visitors who are trying to leave- I think this is basic for list building. You just need to offer them something of value to make them sign up. I think there are also free wordpress plugins, so it'd cost you basically nothing (time, of course). Might worth a try
