Hey guys, I'm new to this forum but have been lurking for some time . I was wondering if you guys had any advice on how to monetize a site that has a high amount of traffic, but is very niche specific. I basically write about cool animals (typically ones people don't hear a lot about). I've had adsense on for a while, but it wasn't making me anything major (maybe around $250/mo). I know people in niche industries making upwards of $1,000/mo... so I know I'm doing something wrong. My site currently gets around 60,000 unique hits/mo but I've had it as high as 400,000 u/mo when I was really working hard on it. How would you go about monetizing this? http://featuredcreature.com |

That's a lot of hits... ...but what quality is it? Who are the people making up those clicks? What do they want? Here's a huge issue I see: You have nothing for sale! Even if a tiny fraction, say 1/1000 visitors, bought, that would still be 60 sales. And that's TERRIBLE conversion. I mean, you can be wrong a lot and still make money with those numbers. So I'm saying you don't have to be too concerned about matching up what you sell with the main topic of the site...which is totally the opposite of most projects I work with. Try a few things for sale. See what sells. Develop some consistency. Then work on raising your conversion stats. |

Thank you for your suggestion! I am actually in the process of creating a new layout which will feature a "shop" section. I'll be selling amazon affiliate products there. Hopefully you're right and I can figure out what kinds of things to sell once people start visiting.

IE. pick ANYTHING and get it up there to buy. Out of 60K people, someone is going to want it. See what I'm saying? Develop a baseline, then improve upon it. Don't look for the perfect solution.

If you think the Adsense earning is not enough for your, you can do the affiliate programming. Here you need to know the Adsense will pay you by providing advertisement only while the Affiliate will pay you after selling only. In the Affiliate case no sale, no commission. I think I made you understand. Thanks

I agree with Jason, you got to start testing CPA offers. An easy way to get your hands of a lot of offers remotely close to your niche is by signing up to several large cpa networks and testing different offers. Start collecting leads on your site (if ur not already) and start pushing them offers. This is the fun part once u got that much traffic! Once you find an offer that sells good. I would consider making your own or white labeling ASAP. |

Making the web site with friendly content and above all compatible and looking nice with every single device out there is one of the greatest things out there you can do to achieve good results, 60,000 unique visitors is massive so you should be getting at least a few sales and or enquiries. The only thing with the 60,000 unique visitors it could be spam traffic or traffic that is very low quality and displayed on search engines, blogs and so forth that you have no success with it yet, I have on my web site only a few hundred unique visitors a day that are genuine, real human visitors and followers of 8,000 on my social media presence and I see results. So your probably only doing one or two things wrong and that's generating high quality traffic from high quality sources and getting REAL human website visitors to your web site. I can't see why you would not be getting sales or enquiries if you were 60,000 unique visitors because that's a very high number. Perhaps start another blog page like blog and give people real reasons to sign up and read your material and reasons why they should purchase your product. Best of luck, DG

Hi cbrooke6,
Here a a few ideas off the top of my head:
I could go on, but you get the idea. Pick a few ideas and have your audience vote on their preference. That way you learn what's hot, and avoid what's not. |

First I would go ahead you had a beautiful website and good traffic. However, as Jason was saying, you have nothing to sell, let alone CTA. I would consider your visitors have some love for animals and would want to protect them. Maybe ask for funding to WAP or same kinds of organizations. You can negotitate to take some percent as an affiliate for their organizations. |

Check out what pages or topic on your site that has lots of visits then optimize that page to have at least an ad or product you can offer. Make it convert. Let them subscribe on your list and offer something in exchange for their email address then offer a great product. You already have traffic then the next you need to do is to convert them into leads or sales.

I see you have a newsletter sign up. Do you get a lot of people signing up for that? You could use that to throw out a sales letter leading to an offer related to your niche here and there. |

I'd start a list with an opt in form and get an autoresponder. Now you need something to sell. Try writing a 20-40 page ebook and selling it. You can get research from googling and/or buying a PLR. You can re-write a PLR if you can find one in your specific niche.

It could be a smaller ad, just below the spot that says to subscribe, and maybe a much bigger one before the popular posts section on the main screen... You could also put a banner on the bottom of your posts. Probably right below where it says to subscribe, or maybe even a banner of some value to the reader at the top. That one you would want to be a thinner banner, that doesn't stop them from just going to the article, but it can still have something there. If you don't have something that you want to sell directly, maybe you can sell ads to people in similar industries.

One of the issues with your site is the content is very "curiosity" based and will attract readers who are drawn in by that aspect but not necessarily looking to buy anything related to animals. Traffic doesn't always translate to dollars. Before you try to make money from your site, the first thing you need to do is understand your audience demographic. What are they searching for or clicking on to get to your site and what is the most popular content. You can also take a look at your Facebook insights section to see some general demographic info of the people who have liked your FB page. Once you know your audience, you can begin to look for products or services that they might be interested in. This is far better than just throwing up a bunch of offers on your site and hoping they stick. |

Start an email newsletter regarding environmental news and causes. Solicit donations to organizations, as well as yourself to keep the message going. You could even sell something too, maybe guarantee shoppers that a portion of all sales goes to saving whales or turtles or something. |

Hey Cbrook6, A fast way to make more money - $15 to $20 per sale is to promote Clickbank offers from the Pets area. All you need to do is sign up for Clickbank (it's free) get the affiliate link from the Pet Guide Affiliate Offer, paste in your code and the graphic banner and you can start making sales! I have written many of these animal guides for clients from Peacock raising, to specialty dog breeds to chameleon care, sugar gliders, kangaroos and sharks for aquariums. Just do a search on Clickbank and you can get your affiliate link and a banner to link to and place this in a sidebar. You can quickly take your pages and the highest traffic ones, find a Clickbank pet product to match or at least something which is similar. All you need to do is find a page on your blog where people may be looking a unique cats and then they see a Siberian Cat Care Guide Banner and then they see a guide on how to buy and raise and care for them in an ad on the sidebar. You have a gold mine here! Good luck with it. Jennie Heckel 3X Sellerator Copywriter |

Really, you can't pick anything and someone out of 60,000 will buy it, that doesn't make sense.

First thing that pops in to my mind is the niche. Break down the kind of person who is going to visit your site. Someone interested in wildlife, the outdoors, adventure. Someone care free really or someone who is interested in the kind of wildlife you have content about. I seen frogs. Do you think that somebody who has read one of your articles about these frogs is someone who instantly decides they want to study frogs? Or perhaps they already study frogs and don't need any more gear. They aren't impulse buyers and nothing on the blog is trying to make them one. I like to study the human brain. Why we do the things we do, why does anxiety, stress, happiness, depression happen and what happens in the brain when it does. It is a general interest of mine and it also helps me with my copywriting. I read a lot of studies and stuff, so when I'm searching google about something particular I am not in 'buying' mode. There is thousands of studies, hundreds of articles and countless forums I can go on and learn for free. Your articles are written well but written well as articles. Not as a version of copy trying to make you a profit. You need to be skilled to be able to write those kind of articles without making it obvious though. You can make money with that blog and in that niche though. Your unique visitors are cold. Maybe they come across the site browsing the web but they haven't been warmed up to buy anything. That's the reason for the conversion rate. PM me if you want, I'll help you out for free and find you some traffic sources that will warm the buyers up before they hit your site. Big ticket items will probably work best with this niche, we can split test. That's if you want my help. I'm not new to the site, just a new account. My old account is: ryanmilligan |

I would start by capturing emails and building a list up. Also, you could sell some Tshirts for something in that demographic. If you are talking about exotic animals or anything like that find out what that demographic is passionate about and make a tshirt on Teespring.com or something like that. Amazon is ok but just a percentage of sales. I would find out the demographic of the people in that niche and give them items they like to buy. With all of that traffic you have 90% of the battle done. Now it's just about making money with it. Lots of testing. |

Hi, you have a lot of hits to promote really everything, or even sell some position on your website to publishers, and really make good money, If you are intending to promote by your own, then think about mobile contents, it works really well!

I submitted my email to your opt-in list. Looking forward to more emails. With that kind of traffic you really should be developing your list. I see you are taking emails but I don't know what you are doing with them. So you need to get a big list, which you can do with your site, and you need to segment the list. Check out Ryan Deiss, "The Machine". Basically you send out more free offers to your existing list. These offers can be very different, even unrelated to your main focus. People opt in again to get the next free gift, and this gives you a clue about what really interests them. Once your list is adequately segmented (eg pets, environment, outdoors, exotic destinations...) you can target them with offers that interest them. In between you need some content so write an email once a week or better still find like-minded bloggers who would be happy to let you republish their posts. Send out 3 emails a week (same email to everyone) and 3 offers a week (different offers to each segment). You can do this with affiliate products, or when your list is big enough (10K - 25K depending on broker) you can rent the list. |

A site with so many clicks is a good real estate. You should monetize it with a popup for a free offer to get them on your email list and than let your followup messages do the selling for you. It's all a numbers game and you are on the right track.

I think that you need to build a relationship with your visitors. I can see that you now have on your site a squeeze page where you give away an ebook. How are getting on with email marketing to your list? |

Maybe low quality/irrelevant traffic to your website. this is a simple blog in very competitive niche, this is why you haven't made much money.

If you can't convert this traffic to a free offer, then you need to check if these are real humans or just bots. One way or the other, if you can't convert them on a free product, the traffic quality is just not good enough.

I think you should make some merch for your website featuring some of the cool animals you talk about. You are getting a lot of hits and would do well with offering something for sale. Something that will stand out! I assume that your ads have a pretty good conversion rate considering the amount of hits you are getting too!
