6500 FB Likes in a week with ads but no penny yet! Any idea if I'm on the right track.

Hello warriors,

I have started a blog about kitesurfing, surfing, and SUP which is what I love doing. This week I ran an ad on FB and I've done good targeting as I paid 300$ for 6000+ likes..... Now the challenges I face are these:

1) Not a good variety of related affiliate products to sell through CB
2) I'm also using Adwords on site but it seems that no body is clicking on them.

I would love this thing to work, as I really love these sports and I'm aiming to make a couple of thousand dollars per month and I'm happy. However I feel that I'm doing somethings right and I need to improve somethings which I can't identify.

So far I haven't earned a penny from the site at all.

I have 60% bounce rate
40% return users

All likes are quality likes! - Surfers etc...

Any idea how I can make some money of this....maybe anyone can have a look at my blog and FB page pls...

regards,
Glen

P.S. I have learnt everything by myself like many but I don't know any code unfortunately...

First thing... Do you know what your target market really wants?

Are they looking for insight on new gear? Trip ideas? Are they beginners? Seasoned riders?

Once you figure out your best guess for what they want, come up with a way to build an email list. Having a fanpage is great, but even better is having a mailing list.

If they want new gear insights, maybe you can put out seasonal gear guides free to subscribers that show off your top 10 picks for surf/sup/kite.

If they want more surf trips, maybe you compile a report of 'The top 10 waves with the best barrels and no one in the lineup' to give away.

We have a snowboard niche site that we've gone through a few phases of growth with and the extreme sports niche can be tough... (Especially now that we've been chasing an endless summer for a while!) But do-able, because of the passion aspect. It is fun to produce content in these niches because it is just another form of sharing the stoke.

For monetization, really the Avantlink.com affiliate network has the best merchants for the extreme sports niches... Tons of surf/sup/kite products you can link to.

Depending on your budget you could hire a programmer to pull datafeeds from affiliate programs and compare pricing for top quality gear that you review... So then you could get known as the place to look for the best deals on quality gear. spadout.com -style, but surf/kite/sup based.

Really, the 'trick' is to find out what it is the people who visit your site want and then help them get it faster/cheaper/easier and you are in the right spot.

I'd say ditch the CB mentality for this niche and focus on gear, kinda what MelanieandMiles is getting at.

Find online shops that sell the type of equipment that people in your niche are looking for and see if they have affiliate programs.

Also, a little off topic:
I was checking out your FB page and it seems like you have little engagement for over 6,000 fans. I'm not questioning your targeting, but make sure that you get that engagement up too!

depending on how much time you have i would outsource this page to someone to manage and build the user engagement with offering tons of tips and insights news and photos etc

then when you have the engagement up and your content is being shared then start building your list from the page and find affiliate offers to run on it

Thank you for your help, I was thinking about the CB mentality like you said and I am quite new to doing affiliate marketing so will go with the other options, and with regards to FB fan page, I am now interested in getting more engagement but I was just focusing on social proof first now I can work slowly on engagement. Thanks for the tips!

Time is not a big issue for me because I have a lot of days off on my current job, however I would like to know how can I outsource the site? And how can I make sure that the content is always relevant and good quality?

In my opinion the value of a facebook like is almost nothing. Facebook has changed their algorithm a lot over the last few years, and the reality is that page posts very rarely show up in a user's news feed at all (think 3-15% of the time!)

Facebook still works, but you need to spend money on ads. Therefore spending money on ads to get likes is a total waste of money.

Try using a lead magnet - offer a free ebook with a list of the world's best surfing locations for example, and then promote that through FB ads in order to build your email list.

From then, it's just a question of reviews and affiliate links to surfing/kiteboarding gear.

Fan Pages are still profitable if you use FB´s own FB note app. Then you can get out to anyone who liked your page and all their friends also...i would go for that and from there build a list...your niche is cool and you can easily monetize it. You might ask them what they want or give them free quizzes so you know what they want...hope it helps...
