If you don't want to read it entirely then read this, in 9 out of 10 cases pop-ups have brought more subscribers, had no negative impact on bounce rates or engagement. It seems that pop-ups work but you need to time them correctly. The offer needs to match the content. Pop-ups aren't irritating if you don't slap them across visitor's faces as soon as they land on your site. Opt-In Pop-Ups: Are They Any Good? | The Daily Egg |

Thanks for posting this, quite interesting. It's all about testing and testing and testing some more. We had one opt-in pop-up going then we decided to do some testing and got 3x the leads. When you're talking about thousands of visits, it adds up. | |

Thanks for the insight. Do you think your conclusions apply similarly to exit pops? As long as they are congruent with the original content. |

Exit pop ups have killed it so far for me.. haven't tried regular pop ups over content though as I only wanted visitors to focus on one thing on the entire page!

which exit popup do you guys use? Depending on your niche - users have been trained over the years to view anything that pops up as a virus warning or something and just click them closed. |

Don't forget - its not just about using an opt-in popup to increase signups. It's also about what you are offering in the pop-up. To really increase signups in pop-ups, always use a great free incentive to entice visitors to give their email - a free ebook, a free consultation, a first time purchase coupon, etc. Don't just say 'sign up to get updates' or 'join our newsletter' - those aren't very enticing. And make the popup stylish and visual to attract more signups. I have a good example on my website if you want to take a look - a popup for my free toolbox: Conversion rate optimization advice and services from Rich Page Hope that helps! |
