Hi, I have recently started my copywriting career and I am writing copy for a resell rights product that I bought. Say, the product is about self defence and street fighting, where the product(ebook) will help the reader to learn fighting techniques and disarm opponents and kick their ass in record time. The problem I am facing is that I dont know how to build credibility for the product. An expert fighter who used these techniques could say that "These are the techniques I use to bring my opponents to their knees and beg for mercy" But, I am not an expert fighter, actually I am not a fighter at all so how do I prove that these techniques work. Other Things I cant say in the copy: I used to get really scared earlier and got kicked and robbed. And now that I have learnt the techniques in the book, I can kick their ass. I cant say all these things, because I haven't used these techniques at all. So, how do I build credibility for the product and prove that this product will work. Or maybe you could just suggest some other way to write copy for this. Please give me some ideas. Regards, Faraz |

Maybe you are selling the wrong kind of product. It's always tough to sell something you cannot relate to. Get creative. You're a salesman. |

Okay, maybe my question was not clear enough. I just want to prove to the customer that the product works. How do I do that? Maybe you could give a few creative ideas. That was the point of my post. I wanted some creative ideas. |

Okay, if this is a resell rights product I'd assume that the original creator had some sort of sales page or copy with the standard features and benefits, testimonials and socia proof, etc. Many resale deals allow the buyer rights to the sales stuff. Have you checked that? Another thing you might try is doing multiple searches for the particular product and see what's out there. Get creative. Good Luck!

So, In short. You guys are saying that there's no way I could build credibility for the product if I am not an expert at it or if I dont have a story which says I used this and it worked. Is that it? What would you do if you were in a similar situation. You had a resell rights product with no salescopy. You are not an expert at the subject and you cant even say that you used it and it worked. How would you write copy for this product. Just by using the power of your words , how would you make people believe that it can be done. And please, dont just say " get creative" . I asked this question because I didnt have ideas. I wanted your help. Saying " get creative" is not helping me. |

I'm not saying there is no way. There are lots of ways but I'm not being paid to write your salesletter so I'm not going to write it. I would go through the product. I would try to visualize the person who would want it in my mind. I would research what other marketers have done with similar products. I would read forums frequented by people in the groups that might want the product... and I would expect that perhaps I would get some ideas from steeping myself in the material. That's all I can offer you man. If you want to be an advertising man you have to learn to get your own ideas. Jack Foster's book "How To Get Ideas" is worth picking-up. |

Hey Faraz, What about the Wall St Journal type of deal (Google it). "Consider the story of two men who seemed equal in every way. One got his ass kicked while the other kicked ass. Have you ever wondered as I have why...." Just tell a story if that is all you've got. Don't pretend it is not a story though - be upfront about it. I owe you a pm... |

To be honest, it's going to be hard to create credibility if you have none. It seems as if you are trying to sell a product that you don't understand and can't relate to. If you don't know if it works or not you are going to have a hard time convincing me that it works. Either try it out, get someone else to try it out, or create the most convincing scenario ever to make me think i need that. I am a martial artist myself and have been involved with it for over 5 years. I don't realistically think anyone can learn how to properly defend themselves by just reading something or watching a couple of videos. You have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that it will work for me. And if you haven't tried it or don't know anything about it....well then how do you suppose you will be able to do that? My advice is to find a different product or do some serious trial and error with your material. People don't buy crap they don't know anything about. What if I were trying to sell you some item of food that not only I had never tried but no one else had ever tried? Seems like a dead end. |

To be honest, I have a hard time offering any suggestions with so little to go on. I can only suggest you study some successful letters for self-defense and fighting products... get some inspiration. Sometimes a great hook will jump out and present itself while reading something similar. Otherwise, I would suggest you dig in and research the specific techniques and moves. Find out their origin, their story. Find the master of each of these styles or techniques and borrow credibility from them. Good luck, Brian |

I think you need to get in the mind of your customer more. Become your customer. That you can do. The reason I took CPR classes is because a friend of mine saved a guy on a train a few days before I was offered the CPR classes. She had just taken the class a week earlier and saved someone's life! I don't think I would have taken them unless I knew they applied to me as I rode the train all the time. Maybe search news sites and find some old lady that used recently learned self defense and used it to kick some muggers @ss. Contact her. |
