Hey everyone, so today I was reading the newspaper ann noticed twice that sentences began with the word "and" and another time the word "but". This makes me think that really it is becoming more accepted to start sentences with bad grammar? Would this be true? |

The sentences were much like that.. they had and's at the beginning. Surely it means somehting has changed if newspapers are doing it? | |

Yes. The language is being destroyed before our very eyes, but it's not new. I've been noticing it for a long time. It's becoming common to read or hear terms like "less taxes", and words like "conversate". Kids are growing up functionally illiterate, and nobody seems to notice. Maybe some day they'll call for help. (somebody will get that) |

Very few people are more pedantic about bad grammar than I am, but even I don't mind sentences starting with "and". I do think it's true that the grammar in newspapers (not to mention that of TV newsreaders) is gradually deteriorating, but I'm not sure this is much of an example, to be honest. It's all just something up with which I will not put. |
