Default Can I get some advice from veterans stuck in a rut?

First, let me take a minute to introduce myself. My name is John Chamberlain and I am from beautiful Denver, CO about one hour away from the majestic Rocky Mountains! Now, onto my problem...

I am not new to the concepts of Internet or direct marketing, by any means. I have been stagnated to the point lately that I cannot get anything done. I have a question for those of you copywriters who have come to a point in your careers that you cannot get anything done in terms of real work and promoting of your websites. The thing is, I am 24 years old and I have been around the web designing successful hobby websites since I was about 12.

I would not say that I have come to a point where I have been "successful", because most of the sites have been hobby websites, where there is no real value that I have added to them to get into the search engines. I have not promoted myself properly as I should have, probably. I want to be successful, and I believe that I have what it takes to do so... I already have contacts and the research methodologies down. I am kind of stagnated right now though. I am staying at my dad's currently, and that is really not a good environment to produce any work. What can you veterans suggest so that I can overcome this obstacle, and get back on track with my career and life? I have read everything that there is to about product promotion and direct marketing, but I cannot just seem to just "do it". It's like there is something that is in my life or in my past that is stopping me from being successful. I know I could; in one year's time be making a decent living. What is really holding me back?

It is not about the money ncessarily, I just want to be my own person again.

I am seriously facing some hurdles right now and I am not sure how I will overcome them.

Also,

I have recently ordered Ken McCarthy's advanced copywriting courses, are they worth it?

Thanks!

John, what do you really want to do? Set your target and then create a blog about how you achieved it. Post daily. Use video and comedy. Build a list by using a free offer on an opt-in. Have a look at what Jason Moffat does on his blog. Comedy |

Read his stuff. Watch the vids. If that doesn't inspire you. Nothing will. Here's your head -

Start feeding your brain mental health food.

Stop reading/watching/listening the news as 99% of it is negative junk that will ruin your outlook on life. I skim the main headlines on CNN or Yahoo once per day and if there's a story I really want to read up on, I do. Otherwise, I ignore the rest. I suggest you start there.

Head to these two sites and sign up for any of their free newsletters:

Jim Rohn International

Achieve Your Personal and Professional Goals Faster - Brian Tracy International

That's two of the best motivational and business philosophers out there. Neither one is a 'rah-rah' type of person and their teachings are quickly usable and great.

Hope that helps,

Mike

I'm going to take a tack I'm guessing no one will like here.

What's holding you back?

Simple... you're lazy.

I can't speak for everyone on this board... but I can tell you that personally... there are days when I'd much prefer to be playing video games rather than writing copy or marketing my business.

But I get up... and get on with it... even when I don't feel like it.

Discipline, focus, all that stuff... there's no magic to it.

You just have to ask yourself how important the result is to you... and if you want it, get off your ass and do it.

If not.. don't.

Stop making excuses and get on with what has to be done. It's not fun, and it's not exciting... but most businesses have that startup phase.

Do you know what you really want?
You should start by setting your own personal goals and focus on it.
You should be discipline too. I see that you're too meek.
I see that you are losing your own self-confidence too.
Just stop to say to yourself that you can't do it, my situation is not supported.
What you think, is what you get. No one can help you except yourself.

I read many good books and some of them are bestseller, and you know that books are written in jail, and in unsupported environments like battlefield.

Take your time, be relax, and asks yourself what is you really want and be honest with yourself. No books, persons, or courses that can help you if you are not start doing it .

You already know what to do but here are a couple of observations and suggestions.

First, you are what you believe yourself to be. I find it interesting that you chose a screen name like manic madness. Is that how you see yourself? If you think such a name is cute or clever, think again. The name represents a negative image. And identifying with such an image, even to the slightest degree, will hold you back.

You say that you've stagnated to the point where you can't get anything done. What the hell does that mean? Stagnation or brilliance is nothing more than a state of mind and your state of mind is your choice.

You say you've been designing successful hobby Websites since you were 12. Then, in the next paragraph you say they were not successful. Maybe you need to define what success means to you so you can recognize it when you get there.

As a couple of folks have already mentioned, you'll also need to define what you want to accomplish in detail and simply get busy doing it. There is no magic wand, it takes a plan and action. It's that simple. If you’re serious about a goal you’ll be sure that you do something each and every day to get closer to the goal, whether you feel like it or not. Mozart and Shakesphere might have sat down and effortlessly composed but the rest of us have to work at it.

Finally, it looks like you might actually have the raw talent it takes to be a copywriter. That's a blessing because many people spin their wheels trying to do something for which they have absolutely no aptitude.

With that said, you need to always put your best foot forward. Did you even bother to proof your post? It's loaded with spelling and punctuation errors. You do realize that when you hold yourself out as a writer that people will be looking for that sort of stuff, don't you? Always do your best. Always. Because you never know who might be watching.

There is a simple secret to getting good at writing. I think I knew it on some level before I actually saw it in print. However, when I actually saw it a light went on. I read it in a book by Steven King titled "On Writing." The secret is this: Read a lot and write a lot.

Wow, one of the mysteries of the universe, huh? Of course not. It's simple common sense. And if you take this to heart you can help maintain a positive and productive attitude by making some of your reading self-help and personal development books. That way you can start seeing yourself as a positive and productive person rather than a manic madman. You can choose to make all of this fit together quite nicely if you want to.

So there you go. You've gotten a few nuggets from me and some great stuff from some of the others here. It's your move. Good luck.
