A few years before copywriting found me, I was messing around on eBay selling a few items here and there to make some extra cash. I have always loved writing and all the sales training and years of door-to-door sales must have combined forces. I first started to write compelling copy to sell items on eBay of all places without really knowing what I was doing. Before I knew it, I was writing near salesletters for all the items I was listing. Thousands of dollars in profit started to pour in. Thousands of views on the auction listings made the view ticker go bonkers. Several of my auctions went viral in a few niches and were talked about for weeks on a few forums. This has been something I've continued to do for years by habit - never really spending much time thinking about what I was actually doing. Recently I listed a couple of items on eBay and did my normal copy type listings and as usual got quite a few emails in from people who read the letter telling me how much they loved reading it. But one email that stuck out more than any other I've received over the years. The fellow eBay member offered to pay me to write his auction listing for him for a similar item. Although the amount to pay me was not worth my time and I kindly declined, he sure did set off a few fireworks in my head. For those copywriters looking to make some extra money on the side, why not start an eBay Auction Listing Copywriting Service? If you're new to copywriting or have a few clients under your belt, there may be something here. For example, I've sold two cars on eBay over the years. For both listings I created full salesletters with videos, photos, funny stories, and sales copy that brought in a TON of views to my listing. The first car I sold I had purchased a year before to use as a winter vehicle. I sold it for more than I paid for it. The second car was my wife's BMW that we had for two years. We broke even. So either I got lucky twice selling cars on eBay or the copywriting techniques I used in the auction listings had something to do with it. So back to the point of this post... If you're a new copywriter, why not hit up some eBay sellers and offer them to write copy for one of their listings? Maybe have different packages ranging from $97 to $397. Target sellers who sell higher ticket items. I see a TON of people selling products for THOUSANDS of dollars on eBay and they have just a few sentences of text on their listing! What are they thinking!? Anyway, just an idea to help new copywriters make some quick cash, gain experience, and scoop up some testimonials you can plop on your site. - TexasGuns |

| Good idea Texas Guns. I also sold stuff on eBay for awhile. I got to be a Power Seller too. One thing I noticed about so many of the descriptions was they were very often lacking necessary information about the item. So when I was interested in buying something and the info was incomplete I had to email the seller and ask the question. Sometimes when I was busy I wouldn't bother and the seller would lose a legit bidder. I saw lots of auctions with really lousy descriptions. That prompted me to always write detailed descriptions of my stuff. And knowing what to write was simple. I'd just ask myself, If I were interested in this item what would I want to know about it to make an intelligent decision? I had a lot of comments in the feedback section where buyers raved about the excellent descriptions. For big ticket stuff I think you have a great idea. And you know what? You'd obviously want to take out a classified ad on eBay to pitch the idea. Last I heard it was still $10 for 30 days with a virtually unlimited word count. At that price it wouldn't be a bad place to pitch IM copywriting either. |

Pure Genius...I'd never thought about approaching power sellers on eBay...I'm probably one of the last people on earth who have never sold anything on eBay. This is a great idea - right in time for the holidays too... |

Nice find Colm. The link about ebay is: eBay Seminar | Hard to Find Seminars | eBay Marketing I quickly breezed through the page there and a lot of what I saw is spot on and things I've been doing for a long time. Great to see others using those methods. |
