OK folks, here's the deal... We've been on a hiring spree lately, taking on extra developers/designers and other assorted talent in-house. I never anticipated taking on a newbie copywriter, but his resume showed up in my inbox anyway. Nothing particularly outstanding except for the fact that he had listed some limited copywriting experience with a local direct marketing company. It's really one of the only times I've seen anyone mention 'copywriting' on a professional resume, so for obvious reasons it caught my attention. I'm definitely not ready to give him any of the current copywriting jobs we have in the queue until I've tested his ability. Frankly, I'm less concerned with where he is now with his skills, and more inclined to employ him based on adaptability and willingness to improve. Here's the deal... If you have a copywriting project you need done, I'll get my recruit on it right away. He's ready and willing to prove himself, and I figured this would be a great opportunity. I can't (nor can he) promise that his work will be stellar. However, I can assure you that I will personally write your copy to your complete satisfaction, also free of charge, if you're not happy with the original piece submitted. I'm more than willing to expose myself to the risk in order to capitalize on a unique opportunity to train up an apprentice copywriter (something I had never anticipated I'd do). Time for the specific details... Niche isn't so important at this point in time. I'd like to test his research and comprehension capability, so I'm interested to see what comes in. As for me, I'll need to resign myself to the fact that I might be rewriting for something I have absolutely no prior experience dealing with. My specialties are with technology (hardware and software solutions, particularly for enterprise applications), Internet/web, and anything marketing, business, and/or sales. None of my prior writing focuses should preclude me from performing a quality rewrite for you. From the time I pass on your project to my prospective apprentice, I'll give him two weeks to get your fully approved copy completed. When you receive your final, I'd like to collect your feedback before you test it, and after you've tested it. I'm looking for specific details that he can look at and use as actionable guidelines to improve his efforts. That's about it! If you're interested, PM me with more information and we'll work out the details! |

This makes no sense... Why don't you test the copywriter out on one of YOUR projects? Less work. More reliable results. Potential for profit. That's what you'd prefer, no? Colm |

Sure, that's exactly what I'd prefer. It's just not right for the scenario. The copywriting projects on hand right now already have deposits attached. Deadlines are set. The clients paid to work with me, and not an understudy. I see so many people with absolutely horrid copy in this particular section of the forum looking for critiques/reviews. I've seen a couple of this kid's examples, and he's definitely got more copywriting mojo than some of the other marketers here looking for help. Figured it would be a good entrance opportunity for the kid, and a way to get some free work done for a Warrior. I don't think it's too much to ask for. |

I would love to take advantage of this if the offer is still on the table! I actually just finished up a product I plan on selling within the IT Computer Certification Niche. Its a book to help potential test takers study and confirm their theory to pass a specific IT Certification Exam. This is my very first post on this forum so i can't PM you directly quite yet. You can reach me at my signature however, my contact info is under my about me profile on the right side of my blog. Thanks and I hope to hear from you soon! Shawn R. Moore |

You've seen his samples... that should be enough. If you want to see if he can get *results*, make sure whoever takes up this offer actually has an established website that they can prove is getting a decent amount of regular targeted traffic. You are most likely aware of all of this... but I thought I'd mention it anyway. Kind regards, -Dan |

Daniel, Absolutely agree with you! The samples, unfortunately aren't long-form web sales copy. One is a postcard for a local salon/spa, and the other is a two-page spread for a local chiropractor. I'm interested in getting the kid started into web copy, so I'd like to see some evidence of a trainable quality in him. Since I'll be providing some semblance of guidance during this learning process, I'll have a good opportunity to get a firsthand look at his research capabilities. I really do intend on this trial job to be used as a test against some pre-established control, but what I don't want is to waste anyone's time or to diminish their earnings potential with absolutely crud copy. Hopefully it works positively for all parties involved! Appreciate the response! Quote:
