If someone held a gun to my head and forced me to choose one of the two, I'd go for 'ways'.

If someone held a gun to my head and forced me to do something to get results, I'd test.

"Mistakes" generally works better than "ways" or "tips", because it makes the prospect wonder if he's doing something wrong or missing something.

I second Paul on "secrets" or "shortcuts", and I'd tweak Alex's suggestion of "mistakes" into a variation on the classic "Do You Make These Mistakes In English?"

I'll jump away from everyone and say...

In my experience "strategies" beats them all.

Tips sound like there is no value in it. "tips" sounds cheap.
Ways sounds unprofessional. Pedestrian.

Strategies sounds like something to me.

And if you wanted to amp that up even I'd consider secret strategies.

It depends a lot on the product.

If you're peddling meatloaf recipes, it might be okay to say...

15 Tips For A Tasty Meatloaf

Or...

15 Ways To Make A Tasty Meatloaf

But...

15 Secret Meatloaf Domination Strategies

...might not work as well.

On the other hand, for a financial or money-making product, saying "tips" or "ways" may be too weak.

You should match the language to the product.

When it comes to confidence I'm not sure you want "shocking" - how about "winning".

Look at making your modifier appropriate to your subject.

For meatloaf you might have tasty strategies

For exam revision how about painless strategies or shortcut strategies - or painless techniques, shortcut tactics.

Consult a good thesaurus!

Hope that helps

It depends on the object you want to "improve" to select the word.

If the object is something small, interesting, informal then "Tips" is a better choice.

If the object is something formal or related to business, "Strategy" is a good word.

When I hear "Tips" it makes it sound like it will be tiny snippets of advice. "Strategies" and "Ways" sounds more formal and like the advice will be more helpful.

All I can say is that with "ways", you also are getting the audience to go through the "tips" to learn along and take action in the process. Also, it's more friendly in the ears.

Agreed. Ways provides a method for getting what they want, rather than just the ideas for doing it (tips).

Hi,

I am new here and joined today. Hello to everyone!

I think you better go with "15 EASY Tips" than "15 Ways". Ways are confusing and if you cannot address it properly or the reader get the address clearly. lol.

EASY Tips seem like apple falling from tree to your palm.

Thanks Everyone!

What I found works EVEN better is to ditch the "X number of ways/strategies/whatever" and theme the piece like this...

"A 3 minute strategy to immediately boost your confidence to newfound levels"

or

"A 2 minute, 27 second strategy that MIGHT shave 3 strokes off your next round of golf" (btw, I have found "might" works great in ultra-competitive markets with these type of headlines...)

Or even, "Give me 1 minute and 14 seconds and I can show you how to defeat information overload..." etc.

I have found it's better to deal with TIME instead of "number of"... in terms of our response rates. Of course, your whole theme is different then... instead of a grab bag of tips, you're giving them a step by step exercise...

Something to try out. It has been working like gangbusters for me and my clients.

Shortcuts and strategies sound the best for me. I'd stear away from using mistakes, or any other pejorative words unless you're going for shock value, like, "Huge Mistakes That All Copywriters Make! Are You One of Them?"
Negative sounding comments that subhead your lists don't generally make a consumer feel good about your info.

I think people are fed up of seeing the '15 awesome tips' kind of headlines everywhere specially at the article directories. The one suggested by Jason is a new kind of headline and that is probably the reason it might prove to be much more effective, until marketers do it to death too.

Your site ranking can go from 100+ to Page 1 in one month. Don't try my service or you will be hooked!

Xrumer or Scrapebox blasts cannot compare with this! This is one of the most powerful, effective and yet under-utilized link building technique for getting links from authority sites which can make Google fall madly in love with your website.
