Default Building a Copywrite Porftfolio

Copywriting... wow. So this is how I can make a living as a writer. I'm not saying I'm an instant expert, but I've been developing my writing skills for a long time now. I just never knew how to earn good money for it.

How do I build a copywriter's portfolio? I've figured out some things myself, and I'm going to start writing some conceptual sales pages, but if anyone knows what the most effective pieces one can have in a portfolio, please share.

Thank you in advance!

You can rewrite Clickbank letters.

You can create a quick product and write a letter for it.

You can go to the book store, pick up a non-fiction book and write a sales letter for it. (great for bullet work)

Back in the day I rewrote a letter for a Urinary Tract Infection product. Not a niche I've got tremendous passion for, yet I did so because it's important to learn how to make things that seem kinda dry... kinda dull... and turn them into compelling reading.

Also, write for niches you personally KNOW from experience. The copy usually carries extra spark. I've got a soccer training letter on my hard drive that's gonna kick some rear someday, when I make the product for it.

All this letter writing is good for getting better... for upping game and so forth, but carrying around a fat portfolio, although preferable, is not necessary if you'd like to collect monies in exchange for copywriting services.

I got my first four-figure paying gigs with only one letter to my name. You may be better off ensuring you have a gangbusters self-promo letter. It'll get you gigs and double as a sample of your skills.

Thanks Ross... Another question, what does 'Copywriting' entail, exactly? I'm guessing a lot of research and sales talk, condensed into one highly readable letter. When you said 'four figure paying gig', do you mean for one letter only or a series of them?

The four-figure gigs are for one letter.

It's a bit more than just "sales talk". There's a lot going on under the surface of the best sales letters. Too much for me to broach in this post I'm afraid.
