Someone posted a thread earlier this week about the power of an image. This takes on the power of your words. ![]() I saw this ad today checking out at the supermarket; it has Michael on the front page seemingly enjoying a day at the beach. The headline: Living For The Moment This could imply two things: A) he will be living for a short period of time B) living for a moment at the beach Interesting... I'd have to say, that's some pretty clever trickery, it's basically grabbing curiosity of two totally different outcomes. -Ross |

I agree that words are very powerful. In fact created the universe through his words.

Words are really powerful, enough to hurt someone. And even enough to destroy someone. Anyways, what actually are you trying to say to us? |

Hi Ross, That's something I was discussing with a friend of mine the other day. So much of our language is based on suppositions that sneaky wording can work to create two completely separate ideas (as you pointed out, are they implying he's having fun at the beach, or about to kick the bucket?) Not only are they placing a mind-worm in the reader's heads, but they're also making it very hard to pass by. Even if you didn't care about the outcome, you might be driven to leaf through it just to figure out what they were trying to say! Clever trickery indeed. |

Plus they threw that little button in the middle "painful secret behind the smiles" so they either only had that picture to use and countered the smiles with that button or they used it to say hey they are hiding something even though they look happy all the time. Either way...it works.
