I always assumed that Warriors were looking for the latest twist, magic button, unique system, overloaded with proof and scarcity. But recently, I noticed a WSO that pretty much gave you the basic offerings that appear to come straight out of 2005. You know, the cheesy eBook cover, the basic bullets, no particular USP, no hot topic of the month and no bold promises. One would expect such an offer to totally bomb in today's WSO forum. But oddly enough, that particular offer seems to have really taken wings and gone wild. This isn't a one off either. Recently, I've seen a couple of fairly new members (200-500 post mark) running basic WSOs with terrible formating, no proof, plain vanilla offers and weak benefits... and getting tons of views, positive replies and loyal followers. Now, I'm not having a pop at anyone, of course not. I'm just deeply curious to how such offers take off? Maybe I was wrong about the forum. Maybe this forum isn't just miracle seekers who want to jump on the latest trend. (sorry, I can't post WSO links, because that wouldn't be fair to the sellers.) |

I don't think the wso's are good representation about what works in the real world.. maybe if we all knew what worked we'd be bored (and rich!)

I believe it has to do with the warriors rep here on the forum and the size of his (or hers) list... Could you give a clue to which offer you're talking about... |

I suspect it must be a "behind the scenes" tactic to generate views and feedback, coming directly from the list. Nothing groundbreaking there I suppose, but still, what kind of list stays stuck at the same basic level and responds so feverishly to such basic offers? It's a funny business, 'aint it?

Just thought I'd add something that I have seen a lot recently to this discussion. Social proof sells WSO's. It seems to me that a lot of marketers with less rep have discovered this forum and can understand the potential of running a WSO. They piece together some very basic stuff and put up an offer. At the end of their e-book/videos/whatever they tend to incentivise leaving a review. If you've got 200+ "rave reviews" your going to generate a lot more sales, it's simple logic. I've purchased a couple of WSO that at the end offer great incentives to post a review of the product. i.e. "If you post a review of my WSO I will send you a free copy of my $27 WSO released a few months before this one. Good or bad I'm not trying to force you to write a review, just get honest feedback about my product." I don't think it is about the offer itself so much. To me it seems to be more about techniques used to generate social proof. |

Two things I can think of straight off the top of my head: 1) There are a lot more newbies and...unwary people on this forum than there used to be (greater number and greater % from what I can tell). 2) Maybe the offer just has a really good promise/knows how to "sell the dream". Those two factors could account for a lot when you put'em together. I remember the days when I would wait for just the right time to launch my WSO, so that 700 people would see it! I looked at the WSO forum this morning, something like 2,100 viewing. There are more people here in general than there used to be, and...let's face it...many of them are desperate to make a quick buck, and may or may not be so wise to the ways of...certain types of marketing, or proof, or what to look for in a good offer, etc. Probably more to it than that, but this was the first thing (or 2-thing combo...) that came to mind. |
