Survey: How many Copywriters are Poets & Creative Writers?

It's only been less than 3 months since I joined Warrior Forum and I have had the good fortune to meet some very gifted poets and creative writers. I have also had a peek at several blogs belonging to Warrior members and have found some beautiful literary creations.

So I was just wondering how many copywriters here are poets and creative writers.

I started out writing fiction and found that it's a great way to starve, especially with a wife and child at home. I do write some gonzo stuff for some magazines now and then.

Eventually, I wound up in sales and got tapped to write copy for what turned out to be a highly successful online marketing company. I left and went out on my own.

Thanks for your reply. Now that you are a successful online marketer - don't you want to develop your creative writing abilities as a side line? Don't you sometime fell frustrated only doing commercial writing?

I do write some non-fiction, and am thinking about some sports writing. As for commercial writing, I'm about to get my own product (no, not an info product) going.

Copywriting put me in a position to do that.

Just kidding ;-)

I love writing fiction. Written a ton of poetry, song lyrics. I still write a lot of rap lyrics.

I think this connection is true for a lot of copywriters.

I wish you the best of luck with your new product! For me writing is food for the spirit. I write because it makes me feel good not as a source of income. For paying my bills I sell over eBay and do copywriting and translations.

Indeed a good copywriter is also a gifted poet and creative writer. Do you have a blog with your creative texts? I'd be happy if you posted a link to your blog.

I love creative writing. I used to write fiction and journal like crazy, still write song lyrics from time to time. It does seem like you have to pretty much divide your life into 1) writing for money and 2) writing for your soul.
