I need some help after a poor mail out effort. This was a hot list of people who attended a free webinar about 2 weeks ago.

Unfortunately as this is only my second post I can't show the letter or link it through...so not sure how to get help on it.

The open rate was 70.6%. Click throughs were 35% of which 15.4% clicked on the signup link...to no avail - 1 person showed an interest.

I'm at a loss with this stuff...comments most welcome but not sure how to go about posting the spiel?

    Hi PPeakey,

Sorry to hear of your difficulties.

Even without seeing the content, there is a clue in what little you have been able to reveal: the list consisted of free webinar attendees.

So, whilst they might not all be tire-kickers, there's a good chance that a good proportion were.

So - although it was 'hot' in the sense it had a certain amount of 'recency', it wasn't hot in the same way as a list of 'hot' buyers, who have bought a product in the last two weeks.

That's about as far as I can take it without seeking the actual material.

The sad truth is this: copy writing is only part of the mix.

    Warmest regards,

    Paul

What was the market? what was the message?... We know the outcome. You don't need a slap, what you need is a nice warm and fluffy cupcake... The people here will help you.

Thanks for the quick feedback. I have hopefully put the link to the mail out in my signature.

Those that sent a PM - thanks. I can't reply until I have made 50 posts.

Your Ad copy is not great, and I also agree with a previous post. It was a free webinar thus none had been recently qualified as buyers but nice try.

    Bernard/Paul,
Thanks - learning something new everyday, i.e. a hot prospect is not what I think it is. I made the association that someone who has taken an immediate interest in your product via signing up for a list of webinar or in this case, both, is considered a hot prospect.

I'd like to hear the correct definition.

I understand the copy is not good - if it was I wouldn't be asking the experts!

@PPeakey: I suggest you don't actually put that link in your signature unless you want to have a backlink to it every time you post... I've gone ahead and linked to your letter for you below.

I'd hit 'em again. Sometimes I don't buy the first email or letter...but if I keep opening, and reading...and opening, and reading...especially if there's a deadline or urgency to act.

yeah but if you keep opening and reading duds, like this letter, sooner or later you're going to open and abandon, open and abandon...

Atleast that's what happens in my inbox/mail.

I said hit 'em again. Not hit 'em again with something that isn't working. But how do you know what works and what doesn't with one letter? The mistake to begin with was not testing different ad copy to compare response rates and then make improvements to the winner.

I'm no expert in IM but I did pretty good in sales/marketing and even better at failing in the stock market over 7 years. So, let's get out of my head and into yours.

Most investors fail and the guys you had at the seminar probably have already experienced a certain measure of failure, both monetarily and psychologically. If they were successful traders, why would they have attended? The other side is that they are brand new to investing. In either case, they want direction. Concrete direction. (This is their problem, the source of their pain)

You're trying to be their friend. They don't need anymore friends right now. They WANT to be told how to be successful. Give that to them. You need to be more confident, stronger in your phrases. Not a jerk though...well, maybe a little.

Relfect back. You definitely did something right in that you got them to attend the seminar in the first place. I would go back and read/listen to the original sales pitch and concentrate on the (call for action) methods of persuasion. I'm certain there were specific buzz words used..."You WILL", "Never again will you have to worry about", "Learn the 3 reasons why using Bollinger Bands will", etc.

I would re-word it and mail it again in about 3 to 4 days. And give them a reason to read it...capture their attention with the title in the email. Make it strong.

The link of great joy and happiness...but this one? This is the one that all window cleaning companies in the free world are inspired by. Hey, where did the sarcasm font go?

Thanks everyone. I have done 7 tests to a total of 357 recipients (all of which get me free weekly email and open it without fail each week.) The average open rate of those 7 emails has been 66% with a click through of 30% to one of the links.

    ocd,
Makes complete sense. I appreciate your efforts and will re-word accordingly. Will also take a look at your 800 hrs work
