Is Red always the best headline color to use. I know testing will always tell the true story. But has anyone had a color that has worked as good or better than red. It seems because everyone is using red an alternate color could make your ad or sales letter stand out from the crowd. I know as soon as I see a red lettered headline, I hear "selling something" going through my head - and my buying guard automatically goes up. But that's just me. |

Well as you say, testing will tell you. For me, it depends a lot on the nature of the market and the product. That dictates a lot of the overall look and feel that will work for them. Besides different shades of bright and dark red, I've had a LOT of success with dark blue headlines. Especially if selling to a slightly conservative crowd. Try it together with a monospaced body font and indented paragraphs for a very clean look. |

Besides the darker reds, we also use various shades of blues - generally dark ones. Depending on the market, darker greens may also work. Have you looked at the general trend of larger competitors within your niche? While one should not always "follow the crowd", it may provide some general guidance. If you use Google AdWords, I would strongly suggest using their Optimizer software. It is free and will allow you to perform your own split testing. Finally, if you want some additional options to try, Version 2.0 of Ryan Deiss' 43splittest product is a tool I would recommend reviewing. |
