I'm just telling you all... I will never write for .01 cents a word. I will never write a $100 sales page. I will never write a $5 blog post. And for some reason...people keep hiring me. Paying your dues in one thing...self respect is another. You can do it. |

Did you know Gary halbert [the greatest copywriter who has ever lived] took jobs where he only made a hundred bucks, right after he got out of Boron [maximum security prison]. And, a few months later he was back to making 15,000 a sales letter. He did this because he was rusty and needed some practice. My point is, the money is important but, make sure you're delivering value to your clients. I.E. Making them money with your sales letters

Better headline would've been, "Down The Shameless Whores" (oh my) or "A Message To Cheap Copywriters..." Those are kind of lame, but easier to connect to the point. Maybe with a bit of opening copy to explain the headline a bit more, would've made more sense... and been more practical. I need to get back to work. ![]() Best, Angel

I think there was supposed to be a subliminal message. If you want a super cheap writer...hire someone else... but if you want a good writer that charges for quality...hire me. I also got the message that if I'm a good writer I shouldn't work cheap because he doesn't. If this were his copy... it certainly screams if your budget is small, hire someone else...I'm expensive |

I won't speak for the OP but I think I understand what he's saying. If you're starting out and you're good, don't sell yourself short. And the reasoning is simple. Once you get known as a bargain basement writer it's really, really, really, really, really hard to break out of that. Did I mention it was hard? Say you've gathered a bunch of clients as an upcoming cheapy writer. Do you think they're going to simply smile and open their wallets and pay two, three, four, ten times what they've been used to paying? They won't. And even worse, they're going to get really angry at you for even trying to get more for your work. That's the bargain basement mentality. It's way better to hold out for what your worth and take less money than to start off as a cheapy and never get any traction moving toward higher paying gigs. Once you get a fair (what you're actually worth) wage, build on that and then continue. One step at a time. |

I agree with this but make sure you're delivering quality. Make sure your skills are worth what you charge. Like FuturePrinceofPrint said - pay your dues first and make sure your writing is better than most of what's out there. Then, you can charge more and you'll get even more business than you did before.

I also charge like this, and people hire me just fine. I do a lot, but writing isn't my number one source of income. I just write for fun.
