Default Fear Test Headline Proves Successful

I'm promoting this CPA offer "African Mango" on youtube. After 2 weeks with:
"African Mango Amazing Weight Loss Discovery" 89 Views

Next 2 weeks:

"Is Dr Oz Right? Is African Mango an Amazing Weight Loss Discovery or Could it Kill You?" 1816 Views

Fear tactics work well to capture curiosity.

You don't thing Dr. Oz might have had something to do with a few more visitors? What if Dr. Oz just promised to share his African Mango Amazing Weight Loss Discovery?

The Dr Oz bit adds proof and credibility to your headline. I suspect adding the good doctor has helped a great deal -

Have you tried using just "Is African Mango an Amazing Weight Loss Discovery or Could it Kill You?"

The Dr Oz mention does get your attention, but I agree it's the fear element that gives you that extra shove to read the rest of the sales piece. If nothing else I'd be inclined to satisfy my curiosity as to which choice it is, especially if I'm desperate to lose weight and have tried everything else.

It's true that fear sells in certain situations. Life insurance is probably the best example.

You changed the title of your Youtube flick and got lots more views. Does your video address any of the downside to African Mango like, "It could kill you..."

What I'm getting at is, if you've got a title that hints at something that is really bad about a product (like killing you) and the video has little or nothing about what was in the headline (like killing you) then people feel like they've been lied to and even if they liked your stuff in the vid they won't buy because you left them with a weird feeling - you didn't keep the promise in the header. People are funny that way...

Just a thought.

Why not try both way - with and without fear - but include Dr. Oz in both?

Test them both and you'll have your answer.

First up, good on you for running the test.

The gap between the two figures (89 Vs 1896) is REALLY very big. And I'm wondering if there haven't been some other issues influencing this that might be skewing things a bit for you?

Perhaps some traffic / SEO work that kicked in? Dunno.

That aside, the others are right. There are TWO variables here. The "Dr" and the 'Negative".

It is really difficult to apply discipline with tests, and ONLY change just ONE thing each time.

I just had this with a client's website recently, where he wanted to change the number of "mandatory' fields on his response form, AND change his pricing at the same time.

That wasn't going to tell him which made the difference, so we convinced him to let us change just ONE item (The mandatories) and test that first.
