Default Most Engaging: Question or Shocking Fact?

Generally speaking, what's the best attention getter or or most engaging?

A question or a shocking fact?

Normally, a shocking fact. Especially if it has incongruency.

For example, this headline by Green Tree Press for a diet product worked very well a few years back ...

Atlanta Housewife Investigated And
Almost Arrested For Losing 73 Pounds

Alex, I thought the shocking fact was the right answer too.

Just didn't have an example at my finger tips to illustrate.

Gotta love that ol' Atlanta Housewife ad for it's abilty to turn heads.

Does that example come from the Info Marketing Blog?

Best,
Ewen

Ewen,

I can't remember where I first saw it. But you can see it here ...

Kiplinger's Personal Finance - Google Books

I've found a lot of good swipes using Google's Advanced Book Search ...

Advanced Book Search

I type in an exact phrase that I know appears in the headline (or elsewhere in the ad) and check the "magazines" radio button.

Alex, thank you for the tip off with Google book search.

Hadn't thought of it being able to search back into magazines.

Just found Facelift-In-A-Jar in Weekly World.

Then right below it, of all things, an ad selling trees!

I'm seeing if I can find the bald headed barber and headless man ads.

Best,
Ewen
