Outside the Internet/ make money online field, the "news" theme is rocking it with one promotion. It's the "Just Leaked; Did Obama Lie?..." headline. Gary Bencivenga's "most ablest competitor" has for years used news themes in his ads. Wondering if others are using it, or seeing it used to great effect today? BTW just come across a very, very cool tool to track competitors ads. It tracks where they can be found on all the content networks... Tracks their split tests... Plus a whole lot more. Just think of the value this brings to you if you have a reputation for outstanding results, or want one, to track your clients biggest competitors split tests and piggy back off them, then direct your client to more places to run the high converting ad. That's how Gary Bencivenga made a fortune for himself and Rodale because there was a full time guy working at finding more lists to run Rodale's winning ad written by Gary. The SUPER MEGA tool is here Home | Adbeat Best, Ewen |

From my following of John Carlton so far, he states that there's three types of successful headlines: 1) "Breaking" News 2) Incredible Results 3) A Story that produces curiosity Combinations improve results. ~Dexx |

A few years back Michel Fortin told me "News" headlines were his best performers. And think of Clayton Makepeace's mailings for his financial newsletter. Very newsy. Cheers, Stephen Dean |

I've had success using news headlines before. I think its something in human nature that automatically makes us intrigued when we see the chance to learn about some new tidbit of news. If you watch the ads for the daily news broadcast they use direct response style headlines to make you want to tune in: "Why Taking Your Car To This Popular Repair Shop Might Be The Worse Thing You Can Do...Full Story At 6" You almost have to tune in to watch their broadcast when you hear that. The news themed style is very powerful. By the way, thanks for sharing that link to Adbeat. I've never heard of them before, and I can see that it will be a great resource for a lot of guys here. |

The above ad seems to fall into "Breaking" News + A Story that produces curiosity therefore it must be working or we wouldn't be seeing it paid media for so long. Best, Ewen

It's well known in the financial newsletter industry that news themes work. Very interesting that Michel has also found it to be true in his markets he writes for. Thanks. Best, Ewen

People are trained to watch news and be entertained on TV. The breaking news disaster, the celeb exposure tied into the cliffhanger effect, creates a powerful cocktail of brain intrigue. Humans can't help themselves in their want to find out more.[/QUOTE] Quote:

News headlines can work great if done right and that's why advertorials can work so well because they look like an article or news story but it's really an advertisement that has that newspaper or story feel.

they work for subjects which are news oriented. Politics. Stocks. Safety (cars, food, supplements) or if a new and/or improved product is introduced, like a new golf club which beats the pros. Also, we might want to note, that many, MANY newspaper and magazine use a "news" looking format, even the lay out says "news". Conclusion. USE the NEWS, but it is especially effective when tied to a group or industry that gets news coverage, like the ones mentioned above. Of course, you can tie it to a news thing... GJ, I like the way you made it clearer on how to tie in "news" within the ad. I'm heading over to find out about this new Egyptian discovery of yours! Best, Ewen |
