I use the subject line: BAD NEWS .. That's it. I normally start with some "bad news" and deliever on the promise and within 5 - 10 lines I've moved implictly onto the good news. Remember, scandal and fear get attention but don't make your whole email gloomy or people will be hiting that "opt out" button ;-) |

I would probably be more inclined to open an email with a subject line of "bad news" rather than "good news".

Haha - this is so true! We're all more used to bad news than good news. We are more cynical when we hear about good news.

Bad news, yup, it works. As long as its not bad news every week. Been doing this for sometime now with some modifications of course. "The dog barks at something, everyone barks at the dog" Jing Quimpo |

This made me laugh, but I can see how that works... it feels borderline deceptive.

Yes, people naturally will be aware of something 'bad' ..... I don't know why, but that's how it works!!

If I remember right, it was Frank Kern last year, who reported this was one of his strongest email headers...and recommended it to his big lists. Which resulted in tons of people getting "Bad News"... _____ Bruce |
