What a coincidence.

His name is Ewen.

I spent 17 years with dogs and whistle directing sheep and cattle and now people...without whistling and shouting.

Like many things in life you certainly can draw parellells between two.

Direct response ad writing and shepherding is no exception.

Interesting how the great admen David Oligivy and Eugene Schwartz [Bute Montana]
spent their young formative years on farms.

Best,
Ewen

Aren't we, as copywriters, meant to have a strong interest in
matters "outside" the ad world so we can morph into obscure worlds
to get into the thoughts, feelings of these sub cultures?

Kinda fun popping in and out of new and weired experiences.

You gotta get some interesting stories to tell your buddies at the bar
from somewhere...now don't you!

Was talking to a young mother who wants to lose weight recently.

It was fun talking about yummy mummys, jelly bellies and love hate relationships
with men and food.

They dig that stuff.

They can talk about it all day long.

You wouldn't believe what she said about shoes and a certain male model!

I was sworn to secrecy, so my lips are sealed!

Best,
Ewen

You know, in Australia we'd be busting out the sheep jokes right about now right?

Luckily you're a fellow Kiwi!

And luckily for the rest of us here, they aren't aired, they are much too rude and crude.

But if you want to know some, speak to Dean and Mal.

Best,
Ewen

Ask Pete, he's the resident mind bender, and part-time sheep bender.

I'm officially retired from the sheep gig.

Frederick Goudy, the typographer, once said, "Any man who would letterspace blackletter would shag sheep."

I think of that when I see giant headlines in all caps.
