I'm a working copywriter-cum-SEO article writer on the staff of a small website design outfit, though in practice really just another stereotypical keyboard monkey working for $10 jobs -- except I have actually written for successful businesses, including one that operates internationally with annual revenues of half a billion dollars! So I'm thinking about doing a side business by hanging out my own shingle charging ~$100 an article/copy...but will I be able to quote such webcopy on my own site without a written okay? Maybe even use a screenshot of the webpage on which my copy for them appears?? TIA x 200000000000000000000!! |

I think the main problem you're going to have is that there is a HUGE difference between copywriting and article writing. I do both and they are priced very differently and take a very different amount of time. Copywriting will be a few hundred dollars at minimum while article writing is priced per 100 words. I think you will have a hard time selling people on a $100 article unless it was absolutely amazing. $100 copywriting is really quite cheap and might make people suspicious. |

Ah, thanks for the heads-up! As my forum handle implies, I'm just another keyboard-monkey right now so actually I'm paid at the same rate regardless of webcopy or article (yeah, that half-a-billion-dollar-company really got a great deal from me through my boss!).... So do you think I could use a screenshot as a portfolio, or just links? And, also, how would I go about getting testimonials?? Not sure my boss would like to know that I'm thinking of striking out on my own -- but while still working as his keyboard-monkey! -- which he'd surely know if I reached out to these clients myself and asked for permission/testimonials.... |
