There are different types of training which will suit different people.

Some want basic training to write their own ads.

Those ads can be for info products, everyday offline products, alternative health products, financial newsletters, services, products and services to be sold to other businesses and ones for consumers..

A trainer has the most experience, high level of skill and bias in one area.

Then there is training for the person wanting to make a career out of freelance copywriting.

As you can see, it's about matching your goals to the trainer.

To give you the most helpful direction, one needs to know your goal in learning copywriting.

    Best,

There are going to be the ads to get people to your or the product creators offer.

Examples are Adwords and banner ads.

Then there is the long form sales letter selling the product or service.

They are short and long form which require different skills and different trainers.

Which one do you want to learn?

      Best,

Check out Marcia Yudkin's No-Hype Marketing Academy for courses on copywriting, publicity, infomarketing, marketing plans, naming, and branding - not to mention the popular "Marketing for Introverts" course.

        • Here's a nerdy thing I do which you might want to try. I record Gary Halbert's letters into my USB headset using Audacity. Then I make them into MP3's and listen to them as I work all day. It's an easy way to get the flow of his writing by listening to them over and over. Plus he makes you laugh a lot which makes work go by faster.

Marketing is not a battle of products. It is a battle of perceptions.

I have also recorded for my listening, Sir Halbert.

I have a software program, 'Text A Loud' and a good quality voice which makes an MP3 without much trouble.

What are the best resources to learn basics of sales letter copy writing? I am not interested in making a career out of it, but would still like to understand what it is based on, and to understand differences between good and bad copy.

Personally I think a non-audio course is better because when you write, you need to write words on a page. That's why it's called the written word, not the spoken word. There are free audio tapes like the Michael Senoff one but if you really want to craft better ads then it's all down to pen and paper or fingers and keyboard, if you know what I mean.
