President Obama is speaking live on national TV right now trying to sell us on how terrible the republicans are. After he is done Boehner comes on to try to convince us that the democrats are lousy commies. They are both selling BS, but the persuasion elements are always worth studying. If you can seperate yourself from the politics of the issues, these types of speeches and debates are always great to study. Watch and learn. |

I agree... there's some serious idea selling going on in those speeches. Putting politics aside, Jon Favreau (not the actor) is one of the most talented young political speechwriters in recent history. IMHO, it's worth getting the transcripts of what he writes and breaking it down in terms of copywriting fundamentals and structure (again, leaving personal political viewpoints checked at the door). Obama named him White House Director of Speechwriting at the age of 27 (2nd youngest ever) after Favreau's work on Obama's presidential campaign run.
