Default David Ogilvy and the Aga Stove

Before David Ogilvy was David Ogilvy he sold Aga stoves door-to-door. In 1935 he wrote a manual called "The Theory and Practice of Selling the Aga Cooker." It's an interesting read:

Luv this quote Joe,

""The perfect Aga Salesman combines the tenacity of the bulldog with the manners of the spaniel".

Now back to reading the rest!

Best,
Ewen

The above quote I just gave reminded of another quote which clearly uses contrast...

not sure who said it, but it went something like this...

"To be successful as a marketer you need one half empathy of Mother Teresa,
and one half of the leading character in Silence Of The Lambs"

He went on to explain you needed the deep understanding of your reader as Mother Teresa would...and be cold blooded ruthless with the numbers and stats which come in from your direct response advertising.

Somebody may remember more clearly about this...was it Gary Halbert who said it?

Dunno

Anyway, over to you Joe.

Best,
Ewen

Thanks for the link. As I read through the "manual", it shows some of the character that made Ogilvy such a great marketer.

PS - "Sexist" is a social engineering concept that changes with time, so I didn't find this at all sexist.
