Default Self Publishing

Hey guys
I need help regarding the whole publishing process. I am writing a book and i'd like to publish it in the amazon's createspace platform. Also, i'd like to publish it in the kindle and other ereaders.

Let me know if anyone has some experience is this, or if you have some suggestions.

Thanks!

The Mods might move this because it is not about copywriting, but the WF doesn't have a self-publishing forum yet. Hmmmm - food for thought.

Hey Max,

I just uploaded several to Kindle, and acquired a Nook (Pubit) account. Several months ago I setup and account with LSI - Lightning Source, Inc. It is a POD printer owned by Ingram - the largest book distributor in the US. I first heard about it here at the warriorforum when another warrior explained how she was using LSI. LSI does sell through Amazon and bookstores around the world.

Lightning Source only accepts "publishers" which means you would need to have a checking account and tax IDs in your publishing company's name, have your own ISBNs, and supply LSI with printer ready cover and book interior.

There are some advantages with LSI that don't exist with CreateSpace - the most obvious is you can use a short discount as little as 20%, which means you get to keep 80% minus printing costs.

There are advantages to CreateSpace in that they can help with the interior, but you must provide the cover on their template. CreateSpace can supply you with ISBN numbers, but then Amazon is "officially" your publisher because it would be their ISBN.

There are "vanity publishers" like LuLu who can do everything for you, and you will pay a premium. A friend of mine published his 250 page, hard back book through LuLu. When he orders copies for himself - he sells them at a retail store he owns - LuLu charges him $17 per book. If he had gone with LSI, the books would cost $7. (Oh yes, LuLu has LSI print their books.)

One of my books is a 124 page paper back that from LSI costs $2.65 each for me to order them. You can also use LSI and CreateSpace, but you would need your own ISBNs.

Two books you will want: "POD For Profit" and "Aiming At Amazon" both by Aaron Shepard. Yes you can get them at Amazon. There is a newsgroup at which Aaron checks into every day and that makes him easy to reach with posts there. He tells you where it is in the book.

His publishing site is *Self Publishing* AARON SHEPARD'S PUBLISHING PAGE *Online Book Marketing on Amazon, Print on Demand by CreateSpace and Lightning Source, Do-It-Yourself Book Design, Amazon Books, POD Publishing, Publish Your Books* I am not an affiliate. Read everything you can find on there.

That will get you started and give you a good foundation.
