Default Should You Use A Red Herring?

Interesting back story on Gary Halbert's ad for "How To Collect Social Security at Any Age"
as told by Doberman Dan.

One of the bullets said something like "Should you have your social security number tattooed
to your body?"

Fantastic how he involves the reader by pulling something non related and tying it in
to the subject.

In negotiating, the term red herring is used when one party puts in a an extra demand
so that it can be removed and therefore ask the other party to remove a demand.

So in this ad, it kind of works as a red herring because it's something brought in to advance the desired result.

Human engineering demonstrated again.

Here's Doberman Dan telling the story

And heres the ad Gary Halbert Ad #9: How To Collect Social Security at Any Age

Enjoy!

Ewen,

Here's a benefit in one of the bullets I don't think anybody would have wanted to experience...
  • How to make your whole family eligible for Social Security benefits, even your youngest children.
The answer to that one is, die! The spouse and children would then qualify for survivor benefits.

LOL

Ewen,

Great post. I think with so many people using the net, and e-mail these days, it could definitely be more beneficial to start sending snail mail... It's seen as being higher value than an e-mail, of course, and definitely worth the 70 cent investment.

"I am the happiest man alive. I have that in me that can
convert poverty to riches, adversity to prosperity,
and I am more invulnerable than Archilles; Fortune hath not one place to hit me."

Damn, I screwed up on the video.

It was meant to be Doberman Dave in it, not Sir Gary.

And I can't find it...double damn!

It also tells how Gary came up with the whole idea of the promotion.

Just by being alert instead of being in a zombie state!

Oh well, if I find it again I'll post.

Best,
Ewen

Yeah if an ad from paid ads online is working then why not transfer it to print,
especially consumer markets.

In that collection of videos of Gary speaking at the System Seminar, he talks about emu oil combined with Titanium Dioxide fractionated.

60 seconds on wrinkles and they dissapear!

Watched that video half an hour ago and have since came up with a maker of it who will private label it.

Do you think that will sell in newspaper and women's magazines?

Is the pope a Catholic?

And get that advertising in newspapers at only 10% of the ticket price.

It's a bigger world out there beyond the computer screen...much much bigger

Best,
Ewen

P.S. Rodale have tapped into the women's wrinkle market with their best selling book
The Wrinkle Cure (Rodale Books; $22.95), by Yale dermatologist Dr. Nicholas Perricone
