Depends. How many words do you need to get your point across?

Don't put yourself on a word limit. Trying to reach a certain amount or staying under a certain amount is only going to lead to a crappy sales letter. Take as many (or as few) words as you need to effectively convey the message you are trying to give. Whether its 100 words or 10,000 words, as long as you pitch your offer correctly and passionately it will convert.

Depends on the venue. If they're coming to see your page you can go on for a while. If you're going to the customer you should keep it short.

It may sound like "not much of an answer" but it should be as long as it needs to be. That will vary enormously. Selling a $7 e-book is a whole different ball-game from selling a $1,997 course. The latter will typically need to have every possible objection answered on the sales page. Even selling a $47 membership will probably be a totally different proposition from selling a $27 e-book. It just depends on too many things for there to be a short answer. A more easily answered question is "How many words should a forum post be, in order to explain that sales letters must and always will vary greatly in length?" |

Don't worry about the word count, that's the last think to factor into the equation or to be concerned over. It needs to be as long as it needs to be to sell your benefits to your target audience and to close the deal by getting your targeted audience to take your desired course of action. If it's a very low price you won't need the sales letter to be exceptionally long. On the other hand if it's for a product of several hundred or a few thousand dollars, you'll need more space to justify the purchase price. Best, Pete Walker |

I always liked this piece of advice: "A sales letter can't be too long; it can only be too boring."

as long as you need. like others said, it depends on what product you wanna sell, the price, your market, and how good is your products. as far as I remember, market samurai doesn't have any sales letter, they give you free tutorial, squeeze page and free trial software. CMIIW |

Good sales copy needs to be like a girl's skirt: ... long enough to cover everything, but short enough to still be interesting. (A favorite quote from a friend *cough*male*cough* writer of mine). |

2,643... possibly 2,756 on rare occasion. Better safe than sorry, though. |

I heard once that most only read the first paragraph, then bullet points, then the p.s. - some of the paragraphs in between, you can fill with lorem ipsum and nobody will usually notice - if they do notice, they'll usually just think they need to translate it with google - usually they're too lazy to go to the trouble, so you're covered. Just my 2 cents. | |

It should be long enough to do the full presentation on your product. But you should present it in as few words as possible. Long enough to cover the essentials, short enough to keep it interesting. Say exactly what you mean about the product, but do so without any extra words. |

Hi it really depends on your product. If you are selling a $7 ebook or service, i guess probably 600+ will be enough. but if you are selling a $47 and there are lots of upsell , then u should engage a graphic designer and copy wiriter to help your draft the sales letter. I think the longer, the better. Since people would want to know what the product benefit them before they commit. Hope this help. Regards, Eric |

It depends on the product AND THE TARGET MARKET! If you're selling to the 18-25 year old male market, put plenty of images and video and not a lot of text. To older women (40-60) you might want to focus more on text... and so on and so forth. Don't assume that a single ad sells universally. |

It does not have to be a long winded letter. As long as you get your point across in a direct and enticing manner, it could be as short/long as you want it to be.

Don't focus on the length of your sales letter. That's just a waste of time. Write your sales letter based on the great principles and tactics of copywriting. Then leave your sales letter for a few days and edit your sales letter from a fresh perspective. I have definitely found, however, your sales letter will naturally be longer the more expensive your product is. It's hard to sell a product or service that is $300 or more in two pages or less, for example. |
